Hi everone,
I am wanting to change my 4x12 cab with the 25 watt greenbacks rated at 16 ohm's to an 8 ohm cab. Can this be done? I have a marshall studio 15 rated at 8 ohm's I am wanting to run into this. My 50 watt plexi ri. that I have been using through the cab has a selector switch on the back of it, so whenever I use this amp I can just switch
it to 8 ohm's instead of the 16 ohm's Ive been using. I just don't know if I can do this or not. Any help on this
would be greatly appreciated, Thanks [ROCK ON] Mark

I believe speakers are set up for one ohmage, I'm pretty sure your gonna have to change your speakers.

Speakers have a set impedance, but you can change the total impedance of a cabinet by its wiring...
But, going from four 16ohm speakers to a total load of 8ohm is not possible by just changing the wiring I believe.

With four 16 Ohm speakers, you can have two series-connected pairs which are then connected to each other in parallel to give a net impedance of 16 Ohms. Or you can connect all four of them in parallel to get a net impedance of 4 Ohms. If you connect all of them in series, the net impedance will be 64 Ohms - not very usefull. You could connecct two 16 Ohm speakers in parallel for 8 Ohms, but then you'd only be using two of the four speakers.
I explained the calculations in this thread (http://www.guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=3383) if you'd like to see how it's done. The bottom line: You can't get an 8 Ohm impedance by connecting four 16 Ohm speakers together. And driving a tube amp into a load that doesn't match the output transformer is guaranteed to kill the amp.

Thanks alot for all the info.everyone I suppose I will start shopping around for an 8 ohm cabinet. I got to be headin
to work, but when I get back i'll read your past thread
