this is real sad, but i haven't heard many songs, if any, from jimi hendrix. i've seen him and everything, but never really heard from him. i am just getting one of those rock inspirations right now. and i think his backwards strat thing is awsome. any of you know where i can hear his music? can anyone give me a link? and any sugestions on cool bands, i dont like metal, i like rock, classic rock, no country or rap please.
thanx

ya, personaly i am kinda against the whole download music for free thing. i am into letting the music companies earn more money by getting their music bought. we are debating this in speach and debate soon. i do like that pepsi is doing a download thing for free cause they are paying for the songs we download. and thats cause they are so fetching rich. hehe, so i guess that is ok. but i would like to here maybe a clip of some of his songs. are there any web sites that would have some? and thanx for the bands, or are they songs? ???

thanx

I guess to pointlessly voice my opinion, I think it's good and bad, if anyone else other than metallica (who really doesn't need to worry about money) complained, then I wouldn't care as much, not that I really do care. And I feel it's safe to say that my cd collection wouldn't have blasted over 100 cds in practically one summer if I wasn't downloading anything. I owe it to kazaa and things like that that I even learned of some of my favorite bands. Though I do understand where it does hurt other bands that aren't as big on the name, loss of sales show up easier and that does blow back on the band. It just depends on how you look at it. And to stay on topic of the thread, for some truly stupid reason, I'm not a fan of hendrix. (and then it dawned on me, just how much time I wasted) By reading this post, you wave the right to point out my already well known ignorance.

you brought up some good points, Cryptic Excretions, and i do agree with some of them. but it is not only the bands who get hurt, it is also (correct me if i am wrong)the music industry all together right?. recording studios, and even maybe the place that makes the cover and cases for them. I went to a recording studio tour one time with my guitar teacher, and i think i remember him saying that they get alot of money if they record gold to multi platinum albums. if their profits go down far enough, how will they record any more good albums?(someone debate with me, this is getting good. hehe) anyway, i was also wondering about the white stripes. i do like two of their songs. i am learning "fell in love with a girl". and still looking for any Hendrix fans. i like pepsi's commercial with hendrix as a kid. its cool. anyway........
thanx

If you've actually tried to download those songs, the most popular versions (the most users have it) you'll find out that someone people have files the same length, size and quality, which just sound like a static TV. So if you end up downloading from several users, you get a half Jimi Hendrix, half fuzz/static song. It's probably record companies trying to discourage downloading but if you get a less popular version they are most likely perfect.

I suggest to listen to anything off Are You Experienced and Band Of Gypsys plus Purple Haze, Voodoo Chile and All Along The Watchtower, just as a start.

I noticed that all the Hendrix downlaods I was getting were corrupted, thought it was coincidence! Its the record companies loss though because now Im not prepared to buy a CD I no nothing about!
Ive bought way too many CDs that were crap to ever risk wasting my money again!

You can always check out Jimi Hendrix (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?artistId=62852) on the iTunes Music Store. There's 20 second, high quality samples of every song.

Wanna see me catch some smack for this?......Here it goes.....I think Jimmy is and was way overated! Dont get me wrong...the man was brillant when it came to writing some off the wall emotional licks, leads, riffs etc...and was the father of some seriuos heavy/bluesy/wierd stuff back when mommy and daddy dropped some good blotter. Infact I have even went through the Jimmy stage! But, as far as todays standards go and from what I grew up to? His live improvised stuff that I hear so much about today.....is kinda noisey and sloppy. Now Im no technical virtuoso myself and Im sure Jimmy had more talent in his pinky then I will ever have in my whole groove. But there was many more in his time that went unreconized!..............Sorry Jimmy Peeps (Just an opinion)

About 2 years ago I was lookin to get into hendrix myself. I ended up buying Experience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi Hendrix for pretty cheap at some record store. Basically it has 20 of his best tracks. I think it's pretty cool. It's real cheap now. Here's a link to it on amazon...if ur'e interested in the tracks on it.
