And just so you know, if you ever have an argument with it and want to get as far away from it as possible, just let me know and I'll assist you by telling you where you can send it. welllllllllllll
that 7th fretless thing is beyond amazing - you can do absolutely crazy things with it. everyone who tried that guitar up to now was ambsolutely blown away by that idea (and by that whole guitar XD ).
The guitar did cost 3.500 Euro which is roughly the same in USD. took 9 months all in all (planning, constructing, etc). the sustain is INHUMAN! - we tested it - you can do a virtually endless tone! just turn the am up to a certain degree and the guitar poicks up the vibes and the tone last forever - and its NOT a feedback! the guitar has overtones on spots where i have never been able to produce overtones on any other guitar. even the last 36th fret does sound great!
this is THE ULTIMATE AXE!!!!!

I'd love to have a custom made guitar, heck I'd love to have 3500 bux. From the pictures, the craftmanship looks excellent. That's definitely the coolest looking axe I've seen. You'll have to let us know when you record a track with it, I'd like to hear what it sounds like.

i will have to racord something in studio, since my home-system wont give the sound any credit. apart from that you have to hear it IRL - over a huge amp. its unbelivable

First off, I'd keep it closely guarded when you play gigs. That thing has got 'theft' written all over it.
Also, sometimes people want things so bad that when they finally get them, they are exstatic, regardless of whether the product really lives up to their expectations. I don't say this to be a jerk, but rather honestly ask you: Is it everything you expected? I know people can convince themselves they love something, especially if they've invested a lot of time or effort into it, when in reality it's not quite what they expected. This is more of a human psychology issue, but interesting nevertheless. I personally know that if I wanted something for a long time, I'd have a hard time admitting to myself that it isn't as good as I'd thought it would be.
My major concern with something like this is that you can't tell what it plays like or sounds like until you've got the finished product in your hand (at which point it is too late to decide you're no longer interested). I'd love to have a custom guitar, but who can guarantee that the finished product would look as good or sound as good or 'play' as good as my expectations? Just a thought.
Azrael
02-09-2004, 12:18 AM
first off - that thing has NOT written theft all over it since it is UNIQUE - noone would be able to use it anywhere on stage without beeing noticed.
and for you second thought. This thing is FAR BEYOND my expectations! realy!
I knew that it would tur out to be fantastic since i have played heaps of other guitars of this luthier and they all where amazing. but that thing is just plain sick.

Once this guy came round to fix something in the house. I wasnt there at the time but apparently he played guitar and was going on about how much he wanted my amp and was wondering if he could buy it off me. All it was, was a 30watt marshall mg :)

i need a better setup.. my home recording equipment does not to be able to reproduce all the fine nuances of that instrument. need to do some recordings in studio *nodnod*

What kind of file will you put up ? Will it just be one that demonstrates the guitar and all the different aspects of it ?

I´m going from a Boss ME-50 directly into a cheap Behringer Eurorack MX802A mixer, and from that into my Guillemot Maxi Studio Isis soundcard. that was sufficient for my ibanez, but not for my dragon as it seems. i was in studio with it at the very first day i got it, and in there the sound was absolutely great. i also played over a huge fender am and it blew me away. did some slapping on the low string and it sounded great *L*
but now it seems that i should record my stuff rather in studio or get a realy good amp.
i will create a website (its long overdue anyway) as soon as i have some soundbits and better pix

I guess if going to the recording studio becomes to much of a problem you could get a really good amp.
What amp would you get to go with your dragon ?
PRSplaya
02-10-2004, 10:25 PM
I'm curious as to what type's of wood were used for the body, neck and fretboard. Also got some questions over in the gear forum about the ME-50 if you don't mind taking a look.

Thats a very good question. i have discovered, that a huge expensive amp displays a guitars character very good while a multieffectsboard leaves little space for the guitar itself. most guitars sound pretty much the same when run trough a multieffects unit only.
i have tried several amps like that fender-cyber thingie (the top+cab version - not the combo) and a huge Sun amp and i was litterally blown away. but those things cost heaps and before i can afford an amp like that i will have to financially recover from that guitar :D
i hope that thing will make me rich and famous. *ponders contacting ulli john roth*

I have found that too. Definatly not a good idea with a good guitar then as it will take away its unique tone and just give it more tone just from the pedal. What kind of music do you usually play apart from classical kind of stuff ? dont you like some power metal bands too ?

Well classical is normally just a hobby of mine. usually i play symphonic speed/powermetal aswell as progressive stuff varying from dt-style to stuff like zappa and alot of medieval music mixed with rock/metal.
and as for the rich and famous thing and all.. well.. a man can dream.. how would that sound.. ulli and me on stage - he with his sky-guitar and me with the dragon.. and we call it "dragon in the sky" concert :D

This is a killer guitar but I have one question, what wood did you use for the body and fretboard?
Azrael
02-24-2004, 12:18 AM
infact -i look funny *LOL* they told me to look sortof evil, but i was laughing all the time and they took like 20 pics untill it was halfway acceptable *LOL*.
the body is made of Corina (some tropical wood also known as Limba AFAIK), the top, neck and fretboard are made of Maple (i dunno the precise english name of that type of maple, but i think its called Fiddleback Maple - it has this stripe-structure) and the fretless part is made of Ebony.

I gotta ask you about the 34th, 35th and 36th fret. What happen when the fret-wideness suddenly increas? Are the three-notes/fret or..? Do you have a E-note 4 octaves higher than the open E-string? I havn't seen any 36 fretted guitar before, acctually..
Azrael
05-10-2004, 04:19 PM
the frets 31, 33 and 35 are missing. thats because the space would be too small and it will be too difficult to actually pace the finger there. thats why the last 3 frets are whole-tones and not semitones
