Increase the settings on the noise gate.

Turn down the distortion and back the hell away from the speakers.

Also, squire strats have kinda shltty pickups so that doesn't help things. I've seen some interesting problems they can have, like randomly clipping the entire signal quieter than when you bang on the strings.

Get a new guitar. I had a similar problem with my squire. Once i got a new guitar everything was fine. First try changing settings though and make sure the amps not set to destortion aswell as the pedal !

I gotta represent now :)

If you're getting a new guitar, buy Cort. You can get a middle-range quality from them for about the same as a p.o.s. squire, and if you spend not too different from $600 you can get a completely professional quality guitar from them (depending on if you like the pickups, I'm the only person I know who doesn't).

Cort is in Korea. They also make guitars for Fender (and maybe jackson, since they're owned by fender), Epiphone, Ibanez, Schecter, BC Rich, Agile, Conklin, and a couple smaller ones I can never remember.
