I'm reluctant to start a thread like this, i just hope someone doesnt flame me for my liking of this band, lol.
Where i live currently, not many people know of this band. I went into a CD store, asking for what they put opeth under, i never know what they label bands as. And usually they dont keep it in stock, along with mental, and non-mainstream.
Opeth is a really good band in my opinion. They do stuff in their music that i don't even expect, totally change the feel of a song without a warning. "To rid the disease" is for this band to me, an epic like Novemeber rain was for GNR. I just recently figured out how to play " the drapery falls"....
Anyone into this band?

Hey, Ive been told to learn the song "windowpane" for a band! It has a weird time signature! Way different to my beloved GnR!

Ive learned tons of opeth songs on guitar, bass and drums. Right now im working on " hope leaves". Did that DVD just come out?
Opeth is definitely one of the better rock bands out there today.
I saw them on their Damnation tour, playing nothing but their "mellow" stuff, they were absolutely mesmerizing...

As I've said several times before, Opeth have been my favourite band for years. Unfortunately, I couldn't see them on their last tour through Australia because every single gig was 18+.
The http://www.opeth.darkwood.com is the best Opeth site for tabs. I've learnt all of Blackwater Park and Orchid on guitar too.

I've been into them for a long while now. Absolutely brilliant, both the heavy songs and the acoustic material.
@ Axl: Windowpane is in alternating 6/8 and 3/4. The duration of each bar stays the same, but the accents shift. Like this:
6/8: ONE-two-three, FOUR-five-six.
3/4: ONE-and, TWO-and, THREE-and.
This effect is called "hemiola", btw.

When I was still in New England, you could at least find a ton of Boston area bands reguarly playing Portland shows.

Yeah, thats true. Godsmack plays alot..but i dont like them either ,lol.
Mostly, no one i really enjoy comes. I dont think Opeth has ever set foot in Maine, i might be wrong though. If they have and i missed it, I'm gonna be very sad.
