Electric - Acoustic Guitar

Does anyone have any first-hand knowledge of what the best electric/acoustic guitar in the $400 - $500 range might be ?

I'm looking at my new issue of musiciansfriend mag. There are some really nice cutaways, but i dont know if your looking for that.

they have an acoustic- electric Ibanez AEF30 for $437.99.
They have the chet atkins standard for $399.99.

All the gibsons are over a 1,000. Jasmine doesnt have one in this issue. I dont know what brand you like, but you can always check at musicians friends website.

I personally like the gibson's, ovation and washburn has some nice ones for a low price as well.

For sure need a cut-away. I was looking at a Fender GS 20 Model. But read a couple bad reviews on it. Can a good brand like Fender make a bad instrument or are the reviews just "sour grapes" by a few ? Don't have any experience with acoustics in the past 25 - 30 years.

Fender constantly makes good equitment. My music instrutor used to sell acoutic fenders in his studio, i really liked them. I cant imagine why someone would give it a bad review.

The Fender GA-43SCE is really nice for $519. Have you checked out the fender Startocaustic's? They go for $319. That has a double cutaway.

I havent played on a Fender GS 20 Model myself. But i doubt its any less quality then all of Fenders other gear.

Tons of really good choices if you planning to go Fender.

i'm not sure if this is what ur looking for but i've seen some good acoustics with pickups (ovation) jus check out the applause ovation website.

I have a Fender Stratacoustic and it sounds really good plugged in, it does sound rather tinny unplugged though. I think it has something to do with the composite back. It plays well though and has a multitude of applications for the traveling musician.

crafter are quite good elecrto-acoustics one of my freinds picked up one of them for bout £300 nice sounding guitar and played well too. also dont turn ya nose up at second hand ones, remeber wood improves as it gets older so sound can improve with age etc. heres an article on buyin used acoustics. hope it helps.

arent the Stratacoustic bodys made of fiberglass or something? That might change the sound when its not plugged in. Maybe i'm thinking of another guitar.

i retrofitted my epiphone les paul es with graphtech Ghost system and it has turned into a beautiful sounding electro- acoustic guitar.

I suffer....The top is a wood but the back is a composite fiberglass/plastic. It looks alot like an Ovation back without the curve.

Partly the reason i remember it is because it looks so nice. Wish i had it :)

hmm, i dont know of any books or DVD's, i mean i do i just don't know how good they are.

You might find stuff online though, probably even on guitartricks.

I've got an Alvarez acoustic. It like it enough to say it's a good brand. My memorable experiances on acoustics involved fender, ovation, martin, washburn, and I played an acoustic ibanez bass which I really enjoyed considering I"m not much of an ibanez fan.
