Try it slowly at first, dont try to keep pace, cause if you cant do it slow, chances are you wont be able to do it fast.
Use the correct fingerings. It will probably just mess you up, espcially on that intro.
For the main solo, when i learned it, i listen to it alot. Trying to feel every note. Since theirs bends all over the place, halfs and full work on those, its will make or break the sound.
The outro ( where the pick scrapes are going on)you can either adlib, or do it as it is. All i can really say is pratice it, til you know it by heart.

yeah, he's right. You just need to keep practising it slow until you really know it well and slowly speed it up. I do have the correct tab for the first solo but thats all.

Get a METRONOME, and start out SLOW.
Every beginner guitarist should be told this, day one!

yeh i got a metronone but the thing is i can play most of the solo slow but it's the sudden changes in speed when slash goes from a big fat bend into some fast slides and hammer ons,
every song i've learnt so far i've not used a metronome because i learn the tab then play it in time with the CD
i've never realy thought of using one before (well not for solos).
thanx for the thought tho:)

Youve gotta remember that slash doesnt play that fast run anything like as good as it is on the record when he plays it live. Its highly simplified and improvised.
The best thing to do it write down the notes he uses, and then use then in any order. Its not essential to get it exact, nor would anyone notice.
When i play than fast run I just use random hammer ons n pull offs with the 7th,8th,10th,12th,14th and 15th frets. And a couple of notes from the 2nd string too of course!

yeh thanx i've been jus screwing around with wum hammer ons from the 8th to the 15th, only thing is wen i play along to the record it doesn't sound as good as the record.
thanx :)

split up parts of the solo too, dont try and play the whole thing at once.
when im learning maiden solos i try and learn it bar by bar, it tkaes a lot of patience but it helps out a lot. and improvise, dont try play everything the guy in the tab does, that'll make things grossly more complex.
good luck!

That's a very good point about learning it bar by bar because there is no point in playing the parts you already know when trying to learn the other bits.

Yea, I used to always start over at the beginning when I messed up. Talk about cornering yourself into some slow progress.

I hear ya, been in that situation before i learnt bar by bar...its not just the slow progress that'll kill you, its the stress of starting over and over andover and over and over again that will stop you from getting the solo :P
