Can anybody tell me the effect Jimi uses in Voodo Chile it's kinda an effect that makes the guitar staticky and kinda cut in and out or is that a wah at a special setting? It's a really cool effect.

peace out

I don't remember the tune. if you have a clip I could probably guess the effect. email it to me jbroder@guitartricks.com

I believe it's a combination of the Wah, distortion/fuzz and just playing style. I can get fairly close to it with just those three. I don't think there's anything special about the effects.

I got the perfect Hendrix-esque fx on me new f/x board...cheekily named Voodoo...
I recommend the Korg AX1000G to you all, its really good.

There is a wah/fuzz pedal from Dunlop? I'm not exactly sure who makes it, it sounds pretty cool though. But, yah, fuzz, wah, reverse tuned strat, Jimi's amazing playing style. that should do it

when i get me some money one of these days, ii'm gonna buy a lefty Fender strat and play it right handed. i think that'd be cool, kinda like a revesed hendrix thing.

Jake, have you ever heard of Jon Butcher Axis? If not I'll post a little story about this guy and his band later. You might get a kick out of it.

I think the effect you're talking about is right after the main verse riff kicks in ... full distortion, etc ...... Jimi bends the g-string at the 2nd fret up a whole-step and while slowly lowering it back to pitch, rocks his pickup selector switch back and forth between the bridge and neck pickups several times. Do this with a ton of distortion and maybe a flanger or phaser pedal and you will get the picture ..

If it's the effect at the beginning of the track, that's jimi striking the muted strings while rocking his wah pedal back and forward.

An addition to that Hendrix effect with the Pickup switch...I've found the best way to play Voodoo Chile is to set the front pickups tone all the way down (0) before doing the pickup switch flicking thing....it makes it much more pronounced a change.

You need to kinda keep your right hand loose as you play (if you're playing right handed) too.
