I have a dilemna. I like my tone a lot, my equipment is as follows -
RP200
Crate GFX30
Danelectro Innuendo
Zoom Mrs 1044 (i use for recording)
The problem is that whenever I pick there is this big swooshing pick noise that hits on the attack, the legato sounds are excellent and smooth though. All the tapping and rhythms are great, but every time I play staccato or tremolo pick the sound comes is really annooying, I can live with it, but I would like to know if there is a way to make it go down a little. Now my compressor is set amount 20 and gain 6.... but that isnt the problem cuz I turned it down and it does the same. The gain isn't the problem either. Any way to change this without sacrificing the tone or paying money?

Try messing around with the bass, mids and trebles on the Distortion and on the EQ.

swooshing might be caused by the angle of your attack.

I always attack at an angle, which makes a swooshing/scratching noise. I don't really mind it but some people told me about it.

Try to pick flat without any angle. Take The Jonezter (another host) for instance he was the first one to point that out for me. He picks totally flat, and his notes comes out very clean at high speed.

My picking is getting better but changing a simple thing as angle picking whne you've been playing as long as I do, it's not easy :)
