Yall know this new guy Jason Truby with P.O.D.? This guy knows his stuff. I read a great interview with him on Guitar.com. Check that out, and the band, if you haven't already. That's good stuff.

I don't exactly have the highest standards, but I was very disapointed with his live performance.

Might have just been a bad night, might have been the rest of the band's suck spilling over onto my perception of him, might have been that he made a big deal about breaking the high E on the set of 9's he must have been playing... I didn't see anything to write home about.

Actually, my brother saw them open for Primus too... but that was such a long time ago. P.O.D. had only been around for a few years, and they really didn't get it together till recently. Besides, Truby is their new guitarist. That's why I was talking about him. Their old one (the one I'm pretty sure you saw) left sometime last year. Trust me... they've stepped it up.

I really liked that old guitarist, I think his name is Marcos Curiel, but I think they both can hold it down for their styles. Marcos was really good at the Mexican acoustic style. I really liked it.

Actually, they've been a band since at least '93, so...

Yeah. They should have been able to competantly open up for Primus by then, regardless of the new blood they may have hired since then.

Alright, if you want to turn this into a big deal... I know they released "Snuff the Punk" in '92. I don't know when you saw the show with Primus, but why does it matter? So they weren't too professional at the time. So they weren't any good at live performance. I didn't think they sounded too good at a live performance I saw of theirs a little over a year ago on TV. But how does this affect their abilities to make music in the studio, and what does it have to do with Truby, their new guy who really knows his stuff, which is all this thread was about in the first place?

I simply have no use for bands that don't hold up live. Seriously, anybody can be made to sound good in the studio.

And I saw them about two or three years ago.

I have to disagree. I think you get a better judge of a bands talent by seeing them live, rather than on a CD. A good producer and Pro Tools can make just about any band sound great. I've seen them live with the new guitarist, not bad but not great either. I also read the article out of curiousity and I have to ask what in it makes you say he really knows his stuff?? I didn't read anything that made me say, "Wow! This guy is a genius". I'm sure a good musician and maybe does know alot, but was disappointed when it wasn't very informative (at least in the way you presented it).

All I've heard from the new guy was some instrumental guitar material on a new track called "Eternal" (I think), and I loved it. Very tasteful.

Haven't seen him live though.

Alright, look... I didn't say Truby was the hottest guitarist of the day... I started this thread for P.O.D. fans who didn't know about their new guy. I was saying he wasn't just some replacement, a random guitar player to fill a slot. He knows what he's doing. I didn't announce this to have them bashed by you unsatisified analyzers. I love P.O.D. for who they are... not for their lack of ability on stage. "Represent I and I Jah-Jah warriors..."
