ok do any of you have any unusual exercises that you would like to share ?

i have a couple...

A) MORSE CODES

look up the morse code on an internet site

for example http://www.babbage.demon.co.uk/morseabc.html

now try playing single letters or whole words sticking to the morse code alphabet...lets say the dots should signify an F and the bars signify an E --- so playing the word "cool" would be

[ _ . _ . _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . _ . ]

[ 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 ]

as you can see , played with 16th notes this would be a 7/8 rhythm :)

now you could also say ... the dots are 16th notes, and the bars are 8th notes ... now the same word "cool" would look like this (played on the open E string)

[O 00 00 0 0 0 0 0 0 00 0]

the possibilities are endless ! the good thing is, you will play stuff you wouldn normally play

B) BRAILLE ALPHABET

look up the braille alphabet

for example http://www.nbp.org/alph.html

now lets say you play a muted string for every small dot and an open string for every large dot

then the same word "cool" would go like this
[ OOxxxx OxxOOx OxOxOx ]

of course you can also make up your own style, lets say whenever theres an O you play the open string, and for every X you play a note outta any scale... you know...

because of the nature of the braille alphabet you have 6 steps per letter, but you can easily omit the bottom row, so you only have 4 steps ...

the good thing is ... you can download braille and morse fonts for windows...do so, type in any text you want, change the font and print out really wicked exercises :)))

That is clearly the craziest thing I have evr heard of. Hey guys don't spend the $150 on a talk box, make your guitar do braille and morse code intsstead!

i forgot to mention...the way i used the braille alphabet i was goin thru the columns like this

1 2
3 4
5 6

or

1 and
2 and
3 and

you could of course make up a different system lets say

1 4
2 5
3 6

and so on ...

i might add : i'm not saying that all of these exercises sound great, they're just great exercises to play stuff you normally wouldnt :)

btw on my music page, the song "kleiner automat" was done using a couple of morse rhtyhms ... might wanna check it out :) (even tho theres no guitars on it ;) )

i have been wondering...could blind people HEAR the braille alphabet ...hm ;)

i guess using the barille thing might help developing crazy rythmic figures.. innnnnterresting. .and i kept playing phone numbers.. tztztzt

you can also do really cool things with microsofts excel, since it has neat random functions.

i wrote a routine in excel thatll print out random single-note melodies in tablature, or another one thatll print out random rhythm patterns...

if anyone is interested i can tell you how i did it or send you an email with those excel-files...however im not sure if theyll work since i used the german version of it...

oh yeah ...theres lots of progs on the net thatll generate random music...now i never tried this, but i guess some of those progs will let you save those randomly generated melodies as midi files...which you could then import into the power tab editor... :)

Oh My God! Is that right? I love that track. In those days Rush were the best. Xanadu and La Villa Strangiato contain some of the best guitar soloing I've ever heard.
