Hey all....
I'm sure a lot of you know me by now and I want to assure you that this post is not some spam crap, but a legit opportunity that I just wanted to give my beloved Guitartricks.com friends a heads-up on. 1 on 1 webhosting is offering a promotional package that consists of 3 free years of professional webhosting (their most expensive package actually) and doesn't even require a credit card to sign up. I thought I'd just let you guys know about this amazing deal if you're interested because it's a great opportunity to obtain free webhosting for your own guitar stuff, mp3s, files, or whatever. There is no catch, but the deal only lasts for a few more days. I've already got my account set up! :) You can check out their website for further information:
https://order.1and1.com/xml/order/EnterAddress;jsessionid=8019BB2C72F741F87C87363C7E19BC04.TC60a?__frame=_top
I wouldn't normally post something like this, but it's a great offer. I think it's only for US and Canadian residents. Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know incase you're getting fed up with free geocities crap-ass websites or incase you're already paying a hefty monthly fee to some professional webhosting when you could be saving a buck or two.

Of course not, Azrael. After the three years, you can then choose to cancel the account or start paying for it. Nothing is 'wasted and gone'. If you're strapped for cash, it's a perfect deal. Right now I currently pay a monthly fee to host my band's website, which is why I've decided to take this opportunity for free hosting. I'm going to be cancelling my account with my old service soon and just use this free package. Why not?
Sorry Digit, I haven't gotten that far yet. When I'm ready to start using the account, I'll figure that out. I'm sure it's explained on their website somewhere...or you could just email them.

I tried emailing them twice... no answer.
Guess when it's free your supposed to figure it out for yourself.
Too bad, all I need is the ftp address... without it the account's useless. I can't even get into the directory to upload my web pages.

Well, you get what you pay for, as the saying goes.

it's going to be ftp.(whatever the domain name is) and you set up your username and password in the setup in the ftp tab under web page. they give you some goofy assed domain name to start with, but I registered my own in that $5.99 a year deal.

I think I tried every combination of domain and user names imaginable. Nothing works.
Guess I'll give em a couple more tries then cancel.

Has anyone here heard of Beige Tower free webhosting? I was going to sign up, but then I realized I have no use for a webpage.
It's absolutely free, for life, all you need to do is have a little clicky somewhere on your main page that acknowledges Beige Tower's existence.

Seems to be legit so far.
I just signed up and copied all my homepage info from http://www.schmange.com
to
http://s93744050.onlinehome.us/SchmangeOnline/home.htm
and everything seems to be working ok. Plus ya get 500MB of storage space which is pretty damned good if it really is free for 3 years.
If everything's still working ok in a coupla months I'll point my domain there when my current contract with Soniqhost runs out.
Thanks for the link. :)
* Digit, try http://s********.onlinehome.us/Directory/filename.***

You can still make the geocities sites look OK.

This is just an assignment for Business Management and was made in just a few hours so the animation, timing with the music and overall look could be dramatically improved.

Cool, thanks Schmange, I finally got it working. It's an excellent deal if its legitimate and so far its above board. I got replies to my tech support emails and they were really helpful. So far I've uploaded about 200MB of files there & can access them without any hassles.
I'd probably question paying $700 per year or whatever after the 3 year trial period is up.
I can get the exact same deal for $60 per year elsewhere.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I've been quickly running out of webhosting space and finally decided to use my 1on1 account. Only problem is, I'm lost. Anyone *ahem Schmange* care to help me out? I'm really stupid when it comes to this stuff..

I'll give it a shot. I ain't no expert or anything so if this is screwed up, feel free to correct me.
First, before doing anything ... download all your files from wherever they're currently being hosted and back them up. Once you change your ISP info your old server may not work anymore and you won't be able to access your old links. (don't have a clue why but that's what happened to me and I was lucky I backed everything up first cause as soon as my ISP changed the info to '1&1', I didn't have access through my old web hosting service anymore and all my old links stopped working).
First thing you gotta have is your own domain name. If you've got one already, great. If not, you can buy one through 1&1 or whoever you want. Either way... you gotta have one cause it just makes life a whole lot simpler. Mine (schmange.com) costs something like $30 a year through a service called CA-Registrar.
Once you have your own domain name you need to contact 1&1 for the basic DNS info that your registrar needs to get everything working. Just ask em...they'll know what you mean.
Send your DNS info to your registrar and in about two days 1&1 will send you a message something like this....
----------------------------------------------------
We are pleased to inform you that your registrar has made the required
name server entries and your Internet site hosted on 1&1 Internet Inc.
servers is now available through the domain schmange.com.
If you haven't already done so, you can now activate the e-mail accounts
for schmange.com: please go to menu items "E-mail > Activate External
Domain Names" in your Control Panel where you can find an overview of all
domains for which the 1&1 mail servers aren't activated yet.
----------------------------------------------------
You'll have to get back to me and lemme know if I'm heading in the right direction here cause I have no idea how familiar you are with FTPing files etc..
and the process is a little different on a windoze machine.
