How to connect Guitar Stap???

Okay, I must be an idiot. I can't figure out how to connect my guitar strap. I have a Martin DM12 and the nob at the bottom connects beautifully, it's just that I can't quite figure out what to do with the other bit.. help!

If its an accoustic then usualy you tie a piece of string around the headstock of the guitar and the strap... if you get what i mean!

yeah, acustic.. String huh? That sounds kind of hokey.. Do they make acustic guitar straps and I simply bought wrong, or does everyone have to do this?

There should be a thin, narrow strap that goes around the headstock and under the strings between the nut and the tuning machines. The other end of this piece connects to one end of the main strap.
