It's hard at first, dude, but you'll get the hang of it, just keep practicing. I love this technique, and I try to use it in some form or another in the vast majority of my solos. Once you learn it, it's a great trick to have.

here's some very basic/ simple things that might help.
1. make sure you have a super low set up. if your set up's too high, you wouldn't be able to tap. for beginners, it's usually good to start with a low set up.
2. you'll need to put some gain- a lot of gain
3. try to excercise your fingers- you can do this by practicing. the stronger your fingers get, the clearer the sounds you create.
