Favorite Band

So... what are your favorite bands? For me, I would have to say none other than Children of Bodom. Every single one of their songs just boggles my mind. They have so much melody and speed and the two combined make listening to them an experience. My favorite guitar player of all time is also the songwriter and leadsinger and of course lead guitar player for this band.

I personally can't stand them. In my own personal opinion, it's decent music but they just trash it with the voice. I mean what is that. It's almost cartoonish how heavy they try to make their music because of it. While I'm here I may as well say the same for In Flames and Samael. Any joe can produce that garbage sound.

I am a huge fan of Dream Theater (dream), Queensryche (ryche), and Rush (2112)... as u can see in my name.

I personally am not a fan of lots of screaming....but to tell you the truth i like some screaming bands (Opeth In Flames etc...) but i need to hear some singin in there. It just cant be tons of noise and nonsense screaming ( aka slipknot).

Children of Bodom and In Flames have a very original sound(minus In Flames latest work)
Give Alexi from C.o.b a break...he gives james hetfield a fly'in run for his money...yeah I said it!
Better guitarist AND singer(since metallica went crappy...well that aint saying much).
Anders Frieden of In Flames has an amazing voice...and there melodys are phenominal.

anyway...my favorite band is Death(could ya guess?)

Allman Brothers up to Eat a peach, Sisters & Brothers. Duane and Dicky Betts, The greatest of all guitar pairings

Molly Hatchett - Danny Joe Brown stuff, before they became AOR.'Flirting with disaster' toppermost boogie album ever.

ZZ Top - up to 'Eliminator'. Billy Gibbons is one seriously underrated guitar stylist

Lynyrd Skynyrd - 'Gimme back my bullets' was a bit weak but all the other albums of the Ronnie van Zant era were top notch.

Parliament & Funkadelic in the 70s. serious grooves, hot chops, off the wall lyrics and arrangements, top playing. The only downside - indirectly spawning the incredibly sh*te Chili Peppers.

Tower of Power, their funky Warner period up to '76. The best brass section ever bar none and one of the hottest rhythm sections in history

At the moment, my favorite band is definitely Symphony X. Rock solid live, possibly the best singer in metal today, and Michael Romeo can, in addition to shredding like a mo-fo, write songs like nobody's business. Amazing orchestrations and harmonies.

EVERYBODY needs to hear Pain of Salvation. While Symphony X satisfy my "killer songs, killer solos, let's headbang!" needs, Pain of Salvation are the epitome of emotional songwriting. Daniel Gildenlöw is one of the great modern musical geniuses of today. His guitar playing and songwriting is bold and creative, and his vocals range from the lowest low to the highest high; from the softest falsetto to the harshest roar. These guys deserve recognition for being the least derivative band in progressive rock today.

I'm also a huge Dream Theater fan, and until I got really into Symphony X, they were my absolute favorites. They are legends, and they've paved the way for hundreds of new bands.

I also love extreme metal with "softer" influences, like for instance newer Samael, Opeth, some of the Gothenburg-style death metal bands (In Flames, Dark Tranquility, etc.), and most importantly Dimmu Borgir's latest efforts. The way Dimmu combine sinister black metal with such grandiose orchestrations is just so powerful... like a soundtrack to the apoccalypse. Besides, their drummer, Nicholas Barker, is one of the sickest ever in metal. That little muppet in Slipknot has nothing on this guy.

My favourite band continuously changes but my overall favourite, for years, would have to be Opeth.

Others have been Jimi Hendrix, Pantera, Slayer, Cream, Pig Destroyer, Blood Duster (on awesome Aussie band with a unique sound of Grindcore/Groove/Rock), Johnny Winter, Primus, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin...

My favorite bands include Sigur Ros, Opeth, NIN, HIM and ofcourse Pink Floyd. Not the heavy-metal most have been posting (other than Opeth) but I highly recommend Sigur Ros for anyone in a slower, melodic, melancholy mood. They don't have any ingenius guitar work or anything but the mood they can set is nothing short of amazing.

I love a lot of fave bands- anything from the 30s to the early 90s, I like. Most bands from the late 90s and onwards, I just feel like crap. They're more commercialized popstars I think. What the fudge is Hanson for instance?

But out of the many bands, my top three would have to be The Beatles, Queen, and then... (cover your ears!) Air Supply. I like the Beatles because besides starting the up th 60's and the many musical innovations, they are the first ones who just looked appealing to me at the age of 7 and convinced me to pick up a guitar.

I like Queen because i thought its nice to mix opera and rock and because of their many music innovations like the Beatles. (Did I also mentioned that in my opinion, Freddie Mercury is the best showman in the world and is one of the most amazing singers that i've heard- he has quite the range and a vast complex style and singing techniques- most impressive are his chest voice to falsetto and when he changes from hard (course) to gentle (smooth)singing which is very difficult to do cleanly).

Lastly, I like Air Supply (an aussie group for those of you who dont know them) because of two things: I believe they wrote the best love songs in the late 70s and 80s (no matter how cheesy it is to some people) and Russell Hitchcock (the singer) is arguably the best singer that I've ever heard. Have you any of you guys heard him sing. This guy has the range (5 1/2 octaves)!- he virtually sounds like a girl, not a girly falsetto voice- but a voice with a body (pure chest voice)! The most amazing is, its all natural- he can sing very high notes without screaming the notes out or making his voice course. He doesn't have to make an effort. Quality wise, it's better than Peter Cetera. You guys heard of "The Power of Love" and "Without You" (I can't live if living is without you)- recently sang by Celine Dion and Mariah Carey- these guys were the original singers of those songs! Check out their version if u have the time.

I am the other way, I think Vai is better. Vai is more melodic and has better feel to my ears. How about give them both a listen and decide for yourself!!

I can't believe no one here has mentioned the Boss. Bruce Springsteen's been putting out great stuff since '73 and can definitely hold his own on guitar. You also can't overlook one of the E Street Band's guitarists, Nils Lofgren. If you have a chance just listen to his Youngstown solo from the Live in NYC album.

I've also got to put The Who and Lynyrd Skynyrd up there too.
