Record guitar on my laptop through my mic input? Ideally if I had money, I would buy an USB audio interface and not bother about stuff like that, but since I don't :( and I have not recorded a single track for the last 2 months I begin to wonder what could I do with my mic input to make it able to record.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Shure, Grab an apapter and a dynamic mic and you are set to go. Shure SM57s are really good for recording guitar and will do a nice job.

You want real ghetto? Get a pair of headphones, plug 'em into the mic input, then "SHAZAM"! You've got yerself a dynamic stereo mic...

Only the mic input is not stereo... ;-)
What about plugging your guitar(and any fx you use) into a DI box, and plugging that into tha mic input?

what's a DI box?
DI box = direct injection box
It converts the high impedance, unbalanced, instrument signal into a low impedance, balanced signal.
Mic inputs require a low impedance, balanced signal...

Well, that's what my band would use to record jams before we had proper equipment. It was kinda cool to have a stereo mix, since my MD has a stereo mic input. The headphones were OK, but now we have some proper mics and I could never see myself doing that again...
