I'm not really into this kind of music but have found that these guys are great musicians and I love the songs "Freak on a Leash", "Did My Time" and "Blind".

What do the rst of you guys think?

well actually it is the style i listen to all the time.........i don't like a particular song though......for the hard stuff like that i would have to go with gently by slipknot

I love Korn. I saw a live show where the two guitar players were having a solo contest and they were doing some Van Halen. It was sweet. I have liked all of the stuff they have put out, especially the new album. It brings back their heavy side and their musicianship (the drummer is awesome).

I year or 2 ago I was into Korn. But just recently I found there stuff to be quite dull n boring. Not sayin that there bad musicians cos I have big respect for them. They just seem to refresh the same material over n over.

I've never been a Korn fan. I thought "Freak on a Leash" was okay. But that's about as far as my fanship goes.

I wouldn't call myself a fan and I don't know if I would pay money to go to one of their concerts, but two of my favorite songs are by them so I can't really complain about their music.

Back in the days when I was listening to cheesy rock music I used to be really skeptical about korn, but as my tastes evolved from that stage I would say that they are one of the greatest mainstream bands around.

to be honest i havn't heard much. i've listend to the album with freak on a leash on (dont know the name), and thort it was pretty cool. i like that style, though i prefare the more techno-y to hip-hop-y. you know, prefare linkin park to limp bizkit, that sort of sound. what are korn like in relation to those two bands (btw i just picked on those two as they are quite popular and everyone knows them, im not taking sides here)

I really wouldn't call myself a Korn fan.
Ive heard some of there stuff.I would take pleasure in burning down there mansions, taking their equipment and using it properly to make talented music not written by ghost writers...whooops...didn't mean for that to slip out...
Anyway...I think korn has contributed to the music scene
enormously.Walk down the street for example and your bound to see some 'badass' git with a Korn hoodie on all into metal, but at the same time a gangsta keep'n it real dawg.He most likley thinks 7 string guitars are the 'end all' and totally the bomb.He tunes down to G(for gangsta)and makes noise in the name Korn 'the best band in the world'!...sorry...didn't mean to type that...whats wrong with me?
Back to what I was trying to say.
Jonathan Davis is so deep and has the best...stupid whiny 'homosexual' voice. All he does is rant on and on about his dad assaulting him and high school kids making fun of him for venting 'homosexual' tension.Kids hear this sh*t,try to relate it to there lives and walk into the mall ready to clothe themselves with latest addidas, puma and other band endorsed products to be an individual...It makes me fu*kin sick...sorry,sorry...

All in all...Korn is a decent band.

Later!\m/ Korn rules,Fu*k everyone!

I was sort of a fan when they first came out. With their selftitled album and "Life is Peachy". Didnt' mind some of the other stuff, but when "Untouchables" came out, I thought they just sucked ass. They're newest album (can't remember the name, it just came out like this tuesday I think) is actually quite good. Although I do agree about the 'whiney' voice. Some of the songs just piss me right off. Anyway, I do agree that they are alright for 'mainstream' music.

As for a comparision to Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit, I think Korn beats the crap out of those two bands, which isn't saying much because I don't really like Korn all that much. But that's quite a biased opinion anyway since I think Fred Durst is a whiny bastard who should quite doing covers of great songs so all his 12 years old fans think that he's the greatest song writter ever. And as for Linkin Park, I don't know, they're alright I guess, I suppose I don't like them all that much because they are overplayed.

That's all...

I remember first listening to Korn in 1995 when my brother was home from college, and he had one of their albums. I was 14 or 15 at the time and thought they were awesome. By the time they were "mainstream" in the late 90's, I had different musical tastes and didn't really care for them. I just chalked them up in the "crunchy guitars and screamer singer" category. I decided I definately didn't like Korn last April when MTV had Metallica on its ICON show. Korn did a cover of ONE, and it blew ass (most of the covers did). They did the cool crunchy part of the song, but totally skipped the solo. I don't respect bands that can't solo.

They didn't do the solo because to MTV the song was already long enough and they needed to focus their time on Avril. Don't worry bro, those two dudes from Korn can solo.

i remember hearing the song "blind" by korn a while back and i thought they were really good. I then heard some of there other stuff and i didnt think they were so good. I thought "freak on a leash" was good. Now i dont think its anygood at all.
Now i play the guitar i can usually tell if a band is talented. I wouldnt say korn are crap. They are definatly better than a lot of other new metal bands.

As for MTV ICON: Metallica I thought Limp Bizkit did the best covering song. Avril sucked and also One was realy bad... The voice of the korn dude (whats his name?) is soo gay.

But back ontopic: I dont think Korn is such a great band. Although I dont know much of there music they dont seem to intrest me.

Im goin to see Korn 21-04-2004 as Support act for MetallicA (Slipknot is also supp act) and Ill just wait and what they can pull of live on stage...

btw I think Limp Bizket is getting better everytime they make a new album. They have a new guitarist, hes pretty cool :) I thought Limp was 'just another band' making that kinda noise, but they are realy getting proffesional.

I dont really like korn cause i think the band has no skill. All they do is scream and i dont like that very much. Though . . . on song Thoughtless is quite good but everyting else is not very great.

I agree, I think that Korn idn't a very good band. Whenever I listen to them, I just hear them shouting and that's all. I do admit that Thoughtless and Falling away from me were good songs, but I just didn't like any of their recent stuffs. I have to admit alucard, they're just a screaming band.

korn = nu metal

nu metal = crap

Korn do kind of shout and scream but not all the time. Korn are not the worst nu metal band out there by a long way though.

i hate korn but not cus all they do is scream...

there might have been a time when they were ok [first album] but then it all started to sound the same on the frek on a leash..this is according to me anyway but i have heard their albums and thats why ill say they suck cus theres no variation, some 'cool' electronica drum beats there and the most poppy of sounds, i can put them in that bag with linkin park staind and the rest.....

they might be good musicians but they fail to express that in their albums.

Korn's version of "One" was some sorry sh*t. Munky showed that he can't even count to four without a drummer behind him (notice how he totally buggered up the rhythm in the intro), and both of the guitarists made asses of themselves when they had to stop before the final solo, just as the song reached its climax. Why? Because they can't play the final solo...

And I thought the vocals were annoying as hell.

Back in the day when i heard all this talk of " Korn", i didnt know what they were on about. I thought the vegatable was stealing the hearts of all these people. When i found out it was a bands name...i just laughed.

Finally i got around to listening to some of their stuff, and i found that it wasnt all that bad for a mainsteam Nu-metal band, in other words, i could stand it. But how many times can a band put of an album and have it sound the same, and not get tired of it? And their new stuff, I liked all those songs back when they were called " freak on a leash","blind", adidas".. etc.

I saw some mtv stuff on them, with the guitarists playing covers of solos and all that.Thing is anyone can learn another persons solo, but can they compose one? I wouldnt know if they can or cant. I saw the cover of "one" they did on mtv2..i was embrassed for them.

Jon's voice goes well with the music though, sometimes i have no idea what he's saying, or if hes saying anything at all, ie: towards the end of " thoughtless". I think its random clicks and grunts.

I don't like the drummers style much, but thats probably only because i dont like this music style anyways. But they are all in all your basic nu-metal band, and as someone else said , i would take them over Limp bizkit any day.

I am loyal to korn as I am any other band that's earned me as a fan. Before I developed my current tastes in music (before I knew of the joys of death and black metal) I was a big nu-metal head. Korn was among my favorites as were slipknot and mudvayne. I'd say those 3 bands are the remaining bands that I'm still loyal to in the nu-metal scene. All they have to do is keep making music and I'll keep buying. I could make a list of songs that I like, but I don't want to get any bigger with this than I already have. Though I'll go ahead and single out a song from band, korn - helmet in the bush, slipknot -prosthetics, mudvayne - pharmecopia

I thought Korn had two guitarists? Munky + Head? Or is that another group?

Cryptic Excretions
02-11-2004, 03:30 PM
No, that's the right band. Munky and Head are both korn's guitarists. As far as calling them crap goes, that's like saying every band that uses cronic power chords is crap. Can't really call a band crap for using that chord as much as they do cause the vast majority of metal bands uses power chords more than anything else. So, that being the case, how can one band be talented and another crap if they're doing basically the same thing?

To the mighty depths of hell with korn. They're not completely talentless, but they don't seem to write anything that puts that skill to good use. Their songs are all linear and follow the same path the whole way through. This doesn't mean to say I hate linear songs, but some surprise would be nice. I saw them after untouchables was released and I found it to be a good show. Came together well. But they're just too predictable for me. I still like their first CD but after that they just kept recycling riffs with basically one song structure. And it's so lame too, every time they start to release a new CD everyone says "dude, it's gonna be better than their first" or "they're going back to their roots". But they never do. It just sounds like they're getting further and further from their roots. Yeah, yeah, yeah take a look in the mirror sounded a lot like their first one. Production wise anyway. But musically it didn't. It just seemed like they were taking a few last shots at that dead horse hoping for a bit more. Personally, Head's leaving the band was good in my opinion. Dear God let someone add some variety to their music.

just by looking at my name you can probably tell i'm a korn fan, and I am apalled at people who say all they do is scream.... (sigh) korn is one of the few bands out there that have a singer these days.If you look at todays rock trend you'll find bands like: Atreyu,Alexisonfire,PoisonTheWell, and Misfits infecting rock, now ALL they do is scream with a high pitched voice just give'em a listen. Then you have death metal:Deicide,Cannibal Corpse,Opeth etc. all they do is groan and moan. Then you have the absolute epitome of crap like Maroon5,bowling for soup, yellowcard. In regards to the people who say that all korn does is whine about how he was molested.Music and art is form of self-expression thats what music is all about, and thats a common characterstic found amongst many musicians---sensitivity,and most of the time people who complain he whines like a baby are most likely either 1.insensitive or 2.insecure about their own masculinity. I'm just saying with how rock is going these days korn is beacon. none of the other alt. rock groups have done anything lately like tool. tool left me speechless after I saw them in concert.

Misfits

The misfits are pretty old dude...and they play punk music...and they arn't infecting anything. They have a more cult following than anything.

And all this atreyu, killswitch engage, shadows fall, lamb of god stuff is NOT the epitome of metal or rock...now since nu metal kids finally realize nu metal sucks, they are all hopping on this 'real metal' bandwagon.

Listen to some Death,Necrophagist,Symphony X,Spastic Ink,Wintersun, dying fetus, theory In practice,Symbyosis e.c.t...makes tool sound like crap(why are they so highly regarded?I don't find them technical or innovative in the least)I don't care if they'er talented. It dosn't show in their music.Tool is another 'cult' band...god forbid,if you think tool isn't good you must be nuts.

and about Mr.Korn whining like a baby...mabey he does?Just a thought.
