Hendrix is my favorite, because he started it all. There was no one like him before he came along. But then again Page is awesome. Can't forget about Stevie Ray Vaughan either. Eric Clapton was awesome. But once again Jimi Hendrix is the man. Who inspired me to play. Jimmy Page would probably about #2 on my list.

Bah... I dunno what it is, maybe I just get a feeling of being cool from underground artists, but the mainstream guys just don't do it for me anymore. Heck, I'm not too far underground, but you know. Doyle Bramhall II, Derek Trucks, Joe Bonamassa, and a recent favorite Josh Smith who plays for Xotic effects and is a professional sideman. Music is soooooooo opinionated, I don't see why people even bother with topics such as this........although who knows, in the stone age when this thread was started, The typical SRV Hendrix debates might have been all the rage.

I wouldn't consider those artists underground  Plus they lean way more into straight forward blues then "Blues based rock"

I used to say Angus Young without even thinking but these days, the main reason I listen to AC\DC is for Bon Scott and the effect he has on the whole sound of the song.. so may be not ANgus Young for me anymore.. but since I can't think of anyone else off the top of my head, it will have to stay Angus Young until I think of someone I "like" more.

I gotta go with Damaged on this; I think Trucks, Bramhall and Bonnamassa are more straight-forward blues. But the three you've mentioned are amazing. I saw Bonnamassa this summer at a free show here in Pgh and was totally blown away. One of the best pure-guitar shows I've seen in a long, long time.

I say "underground" just to emphasize how they aren't getting air time on the radio pretty much. They are on a lesser level than Clapton and the many others, so I just say underground. But Josh Smith... I'd say he's right on the edge of undeground. Also, I was more referring to how you said you liked Angus, and thats where my underground thing came into play.

I agree with you Clutch. Bonnamassa and Dereck Trucks are already bringing it back. Heck, I saw Frank Marino and Mahagony Rush a month or so ago and they're still ripping it up.
