View Full Version : How does Satriani do this?

Hello. Does anyone know how Satriani hits those really high notes in 'Cool 9'?
I don't think it's pinch harmonics or any harmonics because you can hear that his hand is on the string and, well, it just sounds different. I'm talking about the part
where he's playing the main "riff" of the song. He's kinda playing around the
middle of the neck all then it sounds like he slides way up the neck and then he hits
this "weird" sounding very high note. He does it several times during the song.
I saw him do this in concert once and when he does it he puts his right hand on the neck and seems to hold the string and then slides his left hand way up the neck and that sound pops out. It looks
as cool as it sounds. Anyway, what's he doing here?

Easy one: Digitech's Whammy pedal!

...pretty funny fella' but not a favor of mine.

You can get this sound with a whammy pedal?
I'm not familiar with the Digitech model. Does it
have some special features or something? Is a whammy
pedal different than a wah wah?

Thanks.

A Whammy pedal and a wha pedal are two totally different things, except that they look similar.

Whammy => gives you the chance to raise or lower your guitars sound, up to two octaves

Check out the digitech site for more info.
