I hooked my 5150 combo to a Marshall 4x12 cab and mic'd the cab instead of the combo speakers. What do you think of this sound?

Sounds great. A little heavy on the reverb, but otherwise I like it. Very "brown".

Sounds great.
But is it my imagination, or is that thing panned hard left? Why is that?
I noticed it on that link in your signature as well, and its kind of distracting.

Sounds great. LIke the others said tho..I'd pan it dead center and just use the reverb on the left & right just to add a bit of atmosphere. If it's played live through an amp, I'd play around with the feedback a bit too just to give it that 'live' feeling instead of sounding like it was done with Amplitube or something.

I got one of those, except I got the Floyd, a Psycho Splatter Paint job, and a reverse headstock. One of my best playing guitars. I perfer it to some of my vintage Kramers...:)

hey fellow VH fan....sounds great :)
That's the sound I like...nice & powerful & still clear enough to make out the individual strings.
Digit sent me this (http://www.schmange.com/BeatItSolo2.mp3)sound clip btw, if anybody's interested in doing a comparison with the real thing.
It's a single track from VH's solo on BeatIt.
(Panned left with reverb on the right of course)
Don't have a clue where it came from so if anybody knows, gimme a heads up. I'd be real interested in begging or borrowing every guitar track from VH's first album.

Thanks schmange! Wow!! that Beat it clip sounds note for note. Almost sounds like it's the actual track from the album eq'd a little different. If you find out who did it, can you send me a PM. Thanks.

I don't know for sure & haven't double checked it, but I was lead to believe it really is the actual track from the album.
There's a whole bunch of other stuff included with it like really early versions of eruption and VH doing Hendrix and Kiss cover tunes plus a demo of Michael Jackson singing nonsense sounds to Billy Jean before the lyrics were completed. Maybe Digit knows more?

I get them off the binary newsgroups. I don't know where they originate but they're probably off of a bootleg CD or maybe even the artist themselves are posting them. The text info for the van halen stuff says Tracks 1-10 were recorded live at the garage Oct. 1977.
Tracks 11-16 live at Pasadena Hilton 1976.
Tracks 17-25 are all Eddie solo studio recordings. In the studio section theres two versions of Eruption and the rest are the guitar tracks alone from the first album.
Somebody must have had access to the original masters at some point and copied them. I've seen alot of this kind of thing lately in the newsgroups where theres alternate mixes of 70's and 80's tunes or demos done before the album was cut. Theres tons of Beatles, Rush, Led Zepplin and Rolling Stones stuff too.

If anyone finds them, can they post them or send them to me through e-mail. I would love to hear that. Thanks.

I wish I could help ya out but I'm on a slow dialup & my internet provider has a cap on outgoing emails limiting me to only small attachments depending. Plus I can't risk posting them anywhere cause of my user agreements strict policies of not allowing the uploading of copyrighted materials. If I posted it on the net and they found out I could easily lose my service and unfortunately where I'm living, they're the only game in town.
All I can suggest is maybe sign on to alt.binaries.mp3.bootleg
and try doing a request for a repost. They might even still be there if your provider has a half decent retention of files.
Or just hang around for awhile on various mp3 newsgroups. A lot of this stuff is reposted regularly.

I'll send ya a private email. I got service provider issues too... already got busted once just for posting the GuitarTricks newsletter & the last thing I need is those dickwads breathing down my neck again.
