How's it play? I had a noodle around on a P-38 special, with the piezo bridge and it was one sweet (and LIGHT!) guitar. After I build my amp (I envision the parts costing me a fair amount) I think I might invest in a parker.
I started off hating the look, but after a while they grew on me, then I heard how versatile they can be, and now I want one! Obviously my PRS will always be my baby.. but ya know, other guitars are nice too!
Enjoy!

I've been looking at a new guitar.

Any thoughts?

The P-38 isn't even a *real* Parker; I believe that it has a wood neck, not the fancy carbon-something space age material that the Classic has. But it still has the snazzy body design, piezo pickup and the neck is still pretty fast. I think if you had tried a non-P-series Fly, you would have been even more impressed!

A friend of mine has a Fly Classic. It feels so smooth and sounds so good...

My fiance's sister's husband is probably the best guitarist I've met personally, and he plays a black Nitefly with a SuperDistortion in the bridge and the neck pickup removed, and he swears by the thing, won't play anything else live.

Cristoph, in regards to the Ibanez, get a Kramer Baretta like mine, it's cheaper and sounds/feels nicer. I've made a point to play nearly every Ibanez made in a struggle to find this amazing tonal quality people love, and it's been in vain... i picked up my Kramer and 3 minutes later was in love.

Are Kramers the guitars that have the headstock jutting off at this weird angle?

Ibanez RGs..well, I have a few of them, I love them. In my opinion they're really not meant to be played with the stock electronics. Put some Dimarzios in them and it will be the best. I'd go for a different model though, the single-coil in the middle position may seem useless because its so low output compared to most humbuckers, but if you get it re-wired properly, it sounds great.

some of the kramers have the reverse headstock which admittedly takes some getting used to, but you can get (some of) them non-reverse.

The high end RGs come with Dimarzios.

be warned when buying kramers... they're good guitars, but the ones ordered from musicyo.com (I'm not sure if you can get them anywhere else) arent always set up well. My brother bought the explorer model, and I spent 3 hours fiddling with the action, using a fret stone and re-soldering a couple of temperamental dry solder joints.
After this however it plays well, I personally hate the explorer shape, but those quad rail pickups are HOT! it's a great hard rock/metal guitar.
I'm not alone either, I've read several letters in guitar magazines about kramer guitars and these kinds of problems. It will only take an hour or so to fix any problems they may have however, and they're pretty cheap for what they are. Also I love those skull and crossbone tuning pegs on the baretta!
And I didnt know that P series parker fly's werent 'proper' parkers, it seemed pretty cheap for a highy specced guitar, so maybe there's some compromises... man I want an original one more than ever now!

They do, but they're often the lower-end dimarzio models (which aren't all that much better than Ibanez pickups), either that or they're licensed copies. I'd rather get a low-end ibanez guitar, and get my favorite pickup combination in it. I use Kahler tremolos anyway, so I'm gonna have to spend a lot of time on custom work anyway, might as well get new pickups too.

Admitedly, I'm not an expert on pickups. The page says that the guitar comes with these pickups -

DiMarzio PAF Pro (H) Neck PU
DiMarzio PAF Pro (H) Bridge PU

Are those good?

The DiMarzio PAF Pro is a really nice pickup! I would suggest swapping the one at the bridge for a DiMarzio Tone Zone, though.

After you put a Tone Zone in your bridge, there's no turning back... i think from here on out every guitar i own with a full-size humbucker cavity is going to get one. i love mine. it is the best-sounding, most dynmaic, versatile pickup i've ever wailed on.

So you'd say the Tone Zone are best for playing with heavy distortion?

When you want to grind and howl, though, the Tone Zone is the only way to go! :D You don't need a lot of distortion because the pickup is so dynamic. You have to stay on top of it, because subtle changes in pick attack really pop out. Once you get used to it, you can be very expressive. It seems to immediately produce what you hear in your head. By comparison, it seems that you have to 'explain things' to any other pickup, and sometimes stuff gets lost in the translation.
