My combo amp smells like burning if it's loud

Hehe, I sorta copied the simpsons when Ralph ate those berries and said "The red ones taste like burning" :D

Anyway, when I play at even a moderate volume, 5 out of 10 on the gain and volume knobs, my Marshall AVT 50 combo amp starts smelling like it's about to catch on fire. It's not too bad... you wouldn't notice it in a club like if you were on a gig, etc. but I can smell it in my room a little bit the more I play. Any thoughts on why it smells like that? Thanks

We dont need another "shark concert" incident,so I would advise not to push it at a gig.In fact,it would be a good idea to have it checked out.I dont know crap about fixing amps,but its probly not a good thing that it smells toasty.It might be a fuse,valve,transistor,sprocket,flux compasitor...I dont know.

Output transformers are probably getting hot. I wouldn't worry too much about it until you let the "Genie" out of the bottle in a puff of white smoke. Then promptly go out and buy an all tube amp.

Transistor amps don't usually get hot enough to smell burnt unless something is actually burning! If you're lucky, there may be a layer of dust on something that normally gets warm enough to make the dust burn off. An unhappy possibility is that something is very wrong, and some component is about to protect the fuse by blowing first! :eek:
