hey guys

I was just wondering if someone could help me with the fingering for a solo in Killers by iron maiden
I think its Adrian Smiths solo, and he plays this small lick in it at the speed of light.

|----------12-------------------12---------------------12----
|--------------15p12--------------15p12--------------15p12--
|-14b(16)------------14b(16)------------14b(16)------------
|-----------------------------------------------------------
|-----------------------------------------------------------
|-----------------------------------------------------------|

now my question is which fingers you use, coz I use my index on the E and B strings 12th fret, and pull off with the ring finger on B 15th fret but I can never get down with any finger to bend the 14th fret on G with enough power, and when i do I cant get back up fast enough. I've practiced this for a while and realised there must be bad technique in my soloing for licks like this.

If anyone could help it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Try barring the 12th fret B and E strings with your index finger and rest your ring finger on the 14th fret G string.Thats the position you want to keep.Use your pinky finger to pull off the 15th fret B string.Dont take your index finger away from the 12th fret.If you can't make the bend with your ring finger,then...practice.I could tell you to just use your middle finger to do the bend and use the ring finger for the pull off if that would be easier for you,but then that wouldnt be proper positioning and might prove to be bad practice in the future.
That is actually a very, very common lick.

that's because kirk realizes that he is ok, and that Maiden is friggin' awesome.

I thought I would have to do that with my fingers, its just I haven't really be into solo's much before and really the techniquefelt a bit weird...but as you say, practice and it will come.

and yeah, maiden in freakin awesome :>

Glad I could help displacer!
I had practiced the "wrong way" for a few years when I started(Ive been playing like almost four years)and actually began to use all my fingers only six months ago.Nearly everything I did above the twelvth fret was done with my index, middle and ring fingers...thats how I did all my scales and licks. Its better to practice less and practice well than to practice hours and learn bad technique.

Later! \m/
