Find a good shop, and be prepared for a bare minimum of a total retube and having the filter capacitors replaced, I can't see or hear the amp, so it's hard to say whats bad, or what kind of shape it's in, but I wouldn't hesitate to put some money in it, once it's fixed you'll have a very powerful amp, Have you had this amp long, or did you just pick it up? What kind of money do you have in it?.....

Its always been in the basement at my house and i just started playing it the other day. I already know that the cab, is bad, but it has other problems like a rattle and like a slapping sound when ever i play really low notes. I hook it up to a crate 4x12.

The V-4 is one of the best amps the world has ever seen! I have a 1976 VT-22, which is the 2x12 combo version. In proper condition, it puts out 120 Watts of massive tube tone. With good speakers (and I don't think a Crate cab fits that description), that amp will melt the first four rows of the audience, before you crank it into the distortion 'sweet spot'!
Don't let anyone talk you into putting a set of sorry-ass 6L6s in there. It takes a quad of good 7027As to do it justice. And JJ Tesla have re-introduced the 12DW7A preamp tube, so there's no excuse for bad tone.

Yes to all the above, a few years back it was looking grim for Ampeg owners, Ampeg seemed to have a penchant for using all the tubes that other manufacturers didn't use or hadn't used for some time, but now they are all available again, what a great day to live in eh, Hey Staple just for future reference, unless your basement is bone dry they typically are very bad places to store gear like that, too damp, but it sounds like yours has survived, just needs a good tune-up, and now I want to know that why is it when I look around aroud in my basement all I find is junk, shouldn't there be like a 59 Les Paul or something down there, hey I'm going to go look again, see ya later............
