Many people have made a big thing about a certain person's poor spelling. GROW UP PLEASE! I can't believe the amount of crap this person has had to read. Some people have no tact and notice little features of a person's nature and blow them out of proportion just because that makes them feel cleverer. Maybe they do it just because they're insecure about their own faults, if they aren't they should be because their bullying behaviour needs to be remedied, preferably by someone as self-righteous and unfailing perfect as myself! (lol)
Unfortunately, such people may one day use such unfair evaluations to deprive this person of a job he might otherwise do excellently.

PEOPLE WILL JUDGE YOU ON THINGS THAT MAY SEEM TRIVIAL,
Sadly good spelling, grammar, vocabulary and (possibly) even punctuation are important, they are your passports into the white-collar professional world of well paid jobs where you won't have to work all hours just to feed yourself or give up your guitar mania. The whole "**** it, I'm going to be a rock star" attitude won't help you get anywhere. I nearly quit my education with such a goal in mind and I'm very glad I didn't. Guitar can only be a profession for a small minority of individuals. Some people will never make simply because they are BRILLIANT musicians and people don't understand their music and they won't compromise. For most of guitar will only be a hobby but it will be a priceless asset to the expression of one's emotions. So, guitar probably won't earn you money but being able to spell and having a reasonable vocabulary might.

IMPRESS YOURSELF AND DEAL WITH IT
If you want to sort out your spelling and grammar you should use a spell-checker like the one you get in Word. They can automatically underline misspellings and grammatically faulty phrases so you spot your mistakes as you make them. This saves you having a tedious job to do when you're nearly finished. If you want to improve your vocabulary then use a thesaurus and try to avoid using the same word twice in one sentence unless it's a pissy one like "a" or "to" or if it just can't be helped (and commonly it can't). "Dudes" for instance are smooth, poised, cool, urbane, sophisticated, decorous etc.
It's important to adopt the right psychology, think of it as a way of demonstrating your strength of will and as an exercise to improve your memory (which benefits from the effort) and NOT as an admission that you are at fault. To tackle and defeat problems which used to be major issues is a sure way of building self-esteem in all areas, and is much better (though harder) than just doing things you find easy. But go really easy on yourself, the trick is to practice and observe but to avoid negative emotions that actually reduce a person's learning capacity. A person's learning ability increases with practice, it's a fact known to any teacher or psychologist. Most people fall seriously short of their potentials because they are too lazy or give in too easily. Frustration frustrates learning. Stay cool, stylish, urbane. blah blah..

This is your mission should you choose to accept it..

Cue credits, groovy music and people with exploding briefcases.

I’m dyslexic (and very proud of it). As long as concision is not lost along the way, I firmly believe that being able to spell means nothing at all (IMHO)!

Once you grasp the idea that there is no such absolute as "time" and only change (time being a "word" or "concept" invented by humans), something like spelling really becomes so mundane and boring that... well I just use a spell checker!

And, if you can generate the odd inadvertent chuckle along the way well ...hey cool!

I regret to inform you that I choose not to accept it; your ideas close in on free will, and I feel that I, as well as every member on GuitarTricks, has the right to bitch when someone posts a message as dumb as this;

"OMG GUYS! I WORTE AN ASWEME SONG!"

Not only is he wasting our time, he is hurting our brains; we are individuals, we will act how we will; If he has the right to post idiotic messages, then we have the right to reply to them. It's fair game on GuitarTricks; While your idea is good-hearted, what do you expect us to do, refrain from being ourselves the next time we post? There is no black and white, in my humblest opinion, and this is a bull**** thread (no offense to you).

Let's not make him look like the victim, and everyone else, the criminal.

A lot of foreign guys to the english language have a very hard time trying to spell some of our words, but at least they are trying. Imagine having to deciper some of that stuff in their own language.

Just to add my 2 cents worth, (free speech and all)
My spelling sucks too, but a lot of the time its just typo's because i type to quick - too much enthusiasm to get it onto the page. Ist that what this forum is about - Enthusiasm?

if you can shred on the comp keyboard like you can on the guitar good for you, if you cant then it dont matter, and if you cant spell for toffee then well your playings still proberbly gonna be better than mine. I guess it depends what makes an individual happy or not.

like i said, just my 2c worth.

Bad spelling usually comes down to laziness. I say that as a naturally bad speller. I've just forced myself to improve it over time, and I make the effort to check things over before I post (most of the time anyway). Some people have it easier, but realisticly, most people could have much MUCH better spelling and language skills if they pushed themselves just a little harder.

That out of the way, I thought this was Guitartricks... not Harmony Central. You know, a place where the only people who get flamed are the ones who come here looking for trouble.

Yeah, the "Net-speak" annoys me too. But, show a little respect for the community we've been building here, and stay your fingers, folks because you'll miss this thing we've got going here when it's gone.

But by then it will be too late.

Look, was that so hard. That was a post that was able to be read. No one here said you were a loser and said you didn't have friends or any of that stuff.

And you're being very hypocritical. We made fun of you for your bad spelling, and now you're calling us nerds because we can use proper English.

Pot calling the kettle black don't ya think?

You are just making yourself look more ignorant by saying, "Dude, I'm so tough, I would kick your ass if you said that in person." You've turned into the internet bad a*s. Woohoo!!! *runs and hides*

Look at me, I'm a 6'8" 290lb college football player with 32" biceps and a 12" wang. BE AFRAID OF ME!!! I WILL KICK YOUR BUTT!!! (just kidding about all the stuff, except the 12" wang part ;) ) That doesn't make you tough man!

Fact: Don't act like a moron and you won't get treated like one.

I have no beef with you, your posts are simply amusing. It's like trying to decipher a code.

You are missing the entire theory behind the thread. This isn't one person just backing you, in a desperate attempt to save you from disaster, this is a person's idea not to make fun of people because of their typing skills, spelling skills, etc; which is why I bring up the idea- why? I have always, and will continue to, be myself, and if you are allowed to talk out of your asshole, then I, as well as anyone who chooses to do so, should be able to respond to your ignorant comments like one.

That's an old analogy.

The pot is black as well and is calling the kettle black.

Kind of like, someone who smokes, and then preaches to you about not smoking. That's the pot calling the kettle black.

Check my profile dewds. I wrote it nearly three years ago. I've had no reason to change it since then. I view music and language as being inextricably linked.

If something is worth saying, it is worth expressing in ways that are readily understood.

The proper and correct use of language is important to me. Communication is impossible without it. As fluency and accuracy decrease, so does the value of the message. In the written and spoken word, and in music. These are means of expression and communicaton of ideas and emotions. Just as a minimum level of technical competence is necessary to permit guitar players to express themselves musically, sufficient vocabulary, and a firm grasp of the essential rules of grammar, are prerequisites to written and verbal communication.

I might have said something clever here, like "I'll type this slowly, so you can read it." Instead I'll offer to work on keeping my posts simple, if you'll work on clarifying yours. Fair 'nuff?

The Nation Of Islam has never been cool with my people (white Jews). But one thing that I will give them credit for is that they encourage their members to learn impeccable english, and always present themselves in an intelligent and articulate manner.

Why? Because people had the stereotypes of black people saying stuff like "DAMM! Slap mah fro, suh, yes, suh, i's a beein' wolkin dow' thish theah street, whishtlin' to dat 'dere jingly jangly tune." What better way to break stereotypes than to just totally knock them to the floor?

The gateway to a "sophisticated" manner of living and social etho is to have proper grammer and a well-rounded vocabulary. You can have an i.q. of 80, but know how to voice your thoughts well, and manage to come across way smarter than someone with an i.q. of 180 who has no ability to articulate.

I don't care when people don't spell things correctly. I probably messed this post up a few times, and I my dad is a Harvard and Yale graduated professor of English. Language has always been a strong suit of mine. I recognize that there are a lot of people who don't have my abilities and it doesn't bother me or make me think less of them.

It does bug me when people are like "d0ez ne1 nO dA tAbbz 2 ne LiNkIn pArK s0nGzzz?" and do the whole l33t m45+3r thing (okay so I can do that too, but I only know it as a novelty) but hitting a wrong keystroke generally doesn't make me fly into a rage.

I think that also some of the people on this page need to work on making the tone of their posts less hostile, especially when explaining simple things to others... i'm not going to name names, I don't like being a prick like that. But some of the people who really throw down about grammatical structure and inflection on this board don't seem to know the basics of grammatical civility...

ps for the record, I can spell, and I dropped out of school when I was 16, a few weeks into 10th grade, and I had a miserable working class upbringing that's somewhat storied here. I still know how to METAL, I also have a piping hott girlfriend (36E-28-40), I'm about 6'2, 210 lbs mostly muscle, and make pretty damn good money, using my language to my benefiet... all at the age of 19.

i cant help but laughing at this thread. it clearly displays that some peeps do have absolutely no sense of humor. it must be a sad life when you take everything for serious and the only way you are able to reply to someone who is making fun of you is by shaking your fist at him.
When i´m out with my friends for example we keep calling us names and making fun of ourselves each time someone says something stupid - and sometimes even if he doesnt say something stupid *L* - but we can handle it - we know that is just fun! i guess it takes a certain amount of maturity to be able to laugh at yourself.

In my opinion the thing that was most ridiculous about the AWESWEME(or whatever) song was not the fact that he misspelled the whole thing. When I saw this title I thought theat the guy has put a link to so that we can download the song, or part of it and give him some feedback. But when I actually read the post in which he said that the song is so damn cool that he is afraid to post the riffs because someone would steal them. Well, that was ... i don't know what word to use here....stupid. It's like posting "I date with this very sexy chick but I'm not gonna proove you because I am afraid that you will steal it" Well that was not a very goond analogy but it was similar EMPTY statement that has no purpose. In the same wayt you could have just typed random keystrokes and posted whatever the result was. LIKE:KLYVBLIUY:ol iuopiweau0p89706986999996
About spelling and gramar: being a nonnative speaker, I make mistakes, and I know that, and I am giving my best to make less. No problem with that, nobody's perfect. But when you see someone typing like a moron, this is a sign of lack of care or respect, and you are not going to take such a person serliosly simply because he does not care if he can communicate with you in a reasonable way.

O.K. I admit it, "OMG GUYS! I WORTE AN ASWEME SONG!" is to the English language what Josef Stalin was to children's entertainment and flower-fairy pagents. On the other hand, having made my point so forcefully I'm not in a position to make a u-turn that doesn't amount to rounding a u-bend! If the English language was abused any more we'd have to call it... American. (kidding for ****'s sake, not serious! I can't resist a good bitchy comment sometimes). I agree with Lordathestrings that the standard of one's language is important. I appear to have pissed off Ponyone with my insensitve class comments, Ponyone appears, whilst demonstrative of his working class background certainly strikes me as a highly articulate person and I didn't mean my comment to cause offense. As for education and the Arabic world, well, you gave us our numerals and invented zero! We'd still be pissing around with roman numerals (which are practically impossible to manipulate). So, respect. The point remains though, brilliant language skills can still be used to express nothing and poor language can convey a great deal. I'd certainly say some of it was very original, something of a chromatic run of verbal off-the-wallness!

Slow Driver nails it on the head; We teased him moreso because his thread(s) were worthless.

If I typed a thread, saying

"I wrote a riff! It's so good, that none of you can see it!"

What's the point in telling us that? Are we supposed to say "Wow, cool man! Awesome!" Nobody cares! Unless you can post a link to the Mp3 file, nobody gives a ****. Why should we? Nobody cares that you 'worte and awsemome song', and who says it's awesome? You? You should know very well that you aren't the judge of your talent, an audience is. Make sure to have played it at a gig, with feedback, before calling it awesome (or awsmemome); but, in order to do that, you have to get out of your garage.

The posts that I hate are the ones that seem to be written in pure Ebonics. There is nothing that will make me get the flamethrower out, or at least ignore the thread even if I have an answer for it, more than someone saying something like:

Yo dawg, dis sheit be da bomb! (Or something to that effect. sorry about the poor grammer there, I was raised in a school system that was Pre-Ebonics friendly. You had to actually learn proper grammar back then.)

So if you stay away from posting S H I T like the above mentioned, I can overlook poor spelling and grammer...as long as I can understand it.

This forum never used to be so politically correct...When I started out here, I was new to 'forums', and had never even known what an online forum was; I believe I said something (at the time, I was barely fourteen, was still ignorant to the world) that angered some people, and they responded with anger, as they should have.

So, what came about all of this? Were they bullying me? **** no!!! Immediately after that happened, I recognized that internet forums are different, and that your writing style has to 'fit in'. I was in no way a bad speller, ever; (I won my Middle School's Spelling Bee, 3 years in a row)

What I'm getting at is, who cares? It will happen, just let it go. There's no need to defend someone on here, just because he's getting teased.

We have a vocabulary ediquette here, and it is not too hard to follow. Some people are exempt (mostly those in which English is not their native tongue), but for the rest of us, it is just more respectable, and easier to read.

So, back to the subject; Deal with it. I'm sick of the whole "Johnny's getting teased at school, i'm going to file a lawsuit" crap that goes on in America (I live in America, you damn patriots). How come "Why?" is never asked? For example;

Q: Why is Metalic Dude getting ripped on?"

A : Because he isn't following proper online ediquette, he is disregarding his own posts, he doesn't realize that this isn't a chat room (We have one, though), and is basically, wasting forum space.

For the epic thread "OMG GUYS.......etc", that was a wasted thread. I could take you to the end of this very earth with that. There was no point whatsoever for that thread. If you want to tell complete strangers that you made a song, do it in a chat room, where people care.

lol; my mistake. See? Nobody is perfect.

And while thinking on this subject, I decided that I don't care, either way. Sometimes it takes a while for your brain to say "Wait; Why does this matter to you?".
So, my conclusion, as it was previously, "Who gives a damn?".

I think my dislike of Metalic Dude's attitude started when he posted on my "Brain Stimulation Theory", saying that he has seen all these things that I never have, and never will, and that basically, books are a waste of time. I happen to be a very avid fan of J.R.R Tolkien's works (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Silmarlion, Unfinished Tales, etc), and by saying that his books are "Pink and happy" proved to me that he didn't know what he was talking about, in that matter; anyone who has read Two Towers or Return of the King knows that as the series moves forward, they get darker and darker, and are in no way a laughing matter, or 'happy' books at all.

But whatever; I'm just going to close my ideas on this individual by saying that every characteristic he's shown on these forums are the ones that I personally despise, especially the lack of a will to learn. How humans can say "No, I don't care, I don't want to learn that, i don't want to read books" is really upsetting to me, and the amount of people that have this attitude towards education is even more upsetting.

One of the few things that my girlfriend does that REALLY pisses me off, is when, for instance, we're watching a show in Spanish or Hebrew (the two languages she's fluent in other than english), or listening to someone or some individuals speak that language, and she goes, "oh, hahahahaha," at something they said, or does the whole "oooooohhhhhh good point" thing and then just sits there and waits for you to ask what they said. Or she'll see some random obscure object she knows something about, and goes, "oh, that's a nice ______." And nothing else.

When someone is like "hey i made this awesome song" and doesn't even post tabs, and then goes "i'm afraid to post it" I think to myself, "fine then, be that way, whatever." I just normally don't care enough to even say anything.... same with grammar.

Right! Right! You are absolutely right with that. But when you mix the two, plus the negative attitude, you (and anyone who is reading this) can understand why people reacted. I normally don't care either, but a combination between a post that butchers the english language, no tabs or mp3s whatsoever to his riffs, and just the general tone/vibe I got from his posts, it all adds up.

Onto the ladies...
From what I've found is that girls take so much time away from your schedule, that sometimes they just aren't worth it. My last girlfriend dumped me because on three saturday nights in a row, I sat in my room playing my Les Paul instead of courting her to the movie theater. Well, it was that, and the fact that I never called her, never wrote her emails, etc. Basically, I'm not very good at relationships, my longest relationship with a girl lasted 29 days, and I just didn't want to deal with it anymore. My last girlfriend was 2 years ago, but I get along with women very well, despite that. I always wonder "Why do girls need so much damn attention? ", and I often ask girls this, which usually gets the response "We like to feel special". This response usually makes me want to vomit. I realize where they are coming from, but it sounds so incredibly cheesy, even them saying that. A friend of mine once asked me if I was going out with a 'girl' friend of mine, and I said "nah, haven't gone out with a girl in 2 years"...he responded with "why is that?" and I said "Hinders my growth in guitar, girls take time away from my guitar" and he went nuts, like "wtf!? are you f-ing serious!? That's messed up!". Then, that weekend I showed him some Django licks and he suddenly realized that I wasn't kidding.

Yo my friend. As long as you shared your joys, even in bad spelling, it was fine. But don't go around insulting people. If you can't take constructive criticism, that's quite sad. I myself am a French native, and I sometimes read my posts twice before publishing them. It's by sheer respect for those who'll take the time to read me, and to the english language. So come on. Hmm. see where you're coming from incidents, I've been on my own much longer than I'd care to admit, used to be 'cause I was ****ed up 'case my parents split up, my mum was veryill, my sister was suicidal and my "best friend" was a malicious compulsive liar. That's all changed now but I don't know if I could spare anyone worthwhile the time they might deserve etc.
Guitar demands commitment but thankfully not fidelity. I've played the field a bit and love my flatmate's Mexican Strat but my Ibanez is very understanding and doesn't get pissed of 'cause she's not the only neck I stroke nor does she get insecure when I play with another (frankly better) whammy unit. I couldn't get that kind of understanding from a woman. If playing Django licks makes you happy that's great; it's useful to have an all-consuming hobby (I have 3, guitar, wildlife and cycling) 'cause people are so bloody un-reliable. It's important to strive to improve yourself every day keeping your eyes on the distant horion and know that it's the journey not the end that matters.

By the way, Tolkien's cute and fluffy as an indian Cobra hidding in a chamber pot.

Get a life? I have access to many, that's what I love about fiction.

iiholly was on here for a while, I remember we teased her about how short her posts were (she'd post a reply with just 'lol', and that's it. If PonyOne is the king of LongWinded Posts, she was for short posts). It was all positive and upbeat though, she took it like a man (er.....woman). I don't know where she went, I assume that school started for her already.

Don't flame people it is pointless and will only get your post deleted.

Moderators can and will censor offensive posts and you Enslavedtometal are very close to or over that line.

You have been warned !

I apalogize for my comment, I was extremely frustrated about this whole thing when I wrote it; had I not said anything, 'enslaved' or whatever, probably wouldn't have made his post; I will edit it right now.

I really dont like editing or deleting people's posts, however this post has obviously crossed the red line.

lol, and now it looks like it was me who had the flamethrower! :D :D :D

I think we've sucked up all the energy in this thread, I suggest sometime in the future to close it, before someone says something against Metalic Dude again out of nowhere, or Metalic Dude says something against all of us out of nowhere, etc. I've had enough.

Post your gig dates, venues, locations, in case one of us happens to be in the same area at the same time; Do you have a website? Obviously, if you and your band are going to play a full tour, you would have a website, likely a CD, a bio on the band, at the least. I'm fifteen, but I am smart enough to know that in order to get a full tour full of gigs, you would have to go through alot of planning; and when you say you are going on tour, I assume that you mean "touring bars", as most bands do.
What's to hide about your tour dates, gigs, venues, locations, times, set lists, anyways? If anyone is interested, I can give you the set-lists for the shows we've done recently, but unfortunately, since the Farmhouses are on private property, I can't give out the addresses; Privacy, you know.

Please, don't ask how to do a pull-off, and then say that you are going on tour. We can see right (or wright, as you say) through you.

I dont think i need to close it, as its your right to go on with it for ever, but i think we all said everything we wanted/ had to say..

Metalic_Dude: If you've got a tour, youre more than welcomed to share the dates and the locations with us.
