Hey all,
I've been playing about 6 months now, and practise on a 10 watt Leem thing. I want a new amp and am considering a 20 watt.
Will this be sufficient say against drums and bass in the background? Also I want it to sound right, like good distortion and general good pickup of sound. Is this too much to ask of 2o watt? I don't want to spend too much either. Any advice would be great.

I don't think a 20 watt amp will be enough with bass and drums.
One 20 watt amp can be a lot louder than another 20 watt amp, but overall I think you will need more.

i'm not sure if 20 watt is not enough... i myself using cupid 10 watt, and i even don't have to use all the vol.
to sound as loud as the drumms does...
however you can get a nice 25w fender, which is not too expensive and has reasonable distortion...

i have a fender frontman 25w, and i thought it was ok, until i jammed with the guy who is now the lead guitarist in my band. he has a marshall amp, i'm not sure what wattage, but the tone and warmth from his amp whipped mine. i think it's worth it to spend a little extra and get a cheap marshall than to spend less on a good fender or other lower-priced amp.
hope that made sense.

I have a 30watt Marshall, can't remember the model name, and it's great. I picked it up for about $250 CDN and you can't ask anything else from a practice amp. Great volume and tone that can fill a concert hall AND compete with drums and even a marshall half stack.
