for me many rock bands sound better live than in the studio. occasionally some bands put out great live albums which catch the moment and put all their studio stuff to shame. Im thinking of

if you want blood -AC/DC
Live at Budokan - Cheap Trick
What do you want from live - Tubes
Live at Fillmore East - Allman Bros

whaddya reckon?

I think metallica are well known for that, i think a lot of there songs are a bit flat on the records, but stuff like "one" comes alive Live!!
Id say guns n roses are better live too because they take some songs in different directions on stage, aerosmith do that too, big jamming sessions!

Iron Maiden are amazing live. Great tune, great stage preformence and speeded up songs.

PS. I think Maiden album songs are too damn slow, anyone agree?

I really love a good live band.
Bands Like Metallica do just come to life when they play live. The songs sound more "Full" if you undertsnd what I am trying to say. Another great live band is Pink Floyd...if you can try and check out the dvd/vid of their Pulse tour of 93 (I think ) it rocks.

maiden are awesome live, i can't wait to see them this summer
dream theater is great, especially when all the guys go nuts on their instruments

blind guardian are very very good live, the only thing that makes their studio studd better is the fact that they put in many layers and nuances that make the songs better

iced earth is great live as well

Grateful Dead, Phish, Jimi Hendrix, String Cheese Incident, Allman Brothers, basically anyone who improvises...

sounds better live than studio.

ive always thought that yngwie malmsteen was awsome live..i like it beeter than the pre recording..for some reasn his improvisations sound better than the orignial solo itself

Led Zeppelin, anyone? Now that was a live band, in my opinion the best. Especially if your talking about improvising, they never played the same song the same way twice. Pink Floyd was great live too along with Kiss. For a metal band, pantera was really good live. Metallica was cool but I wouldn't care to see them live now, back in the day he(( yeah. ACDC would be cool cause those guys are only like 5 feet tall. LOL I'd definitely like to see them. The G3 tour was a great show from what I heard, missed it cause I was out of town. :( and yeah, I defintely dig any live recording over a studio one. That is if the band is good. A good punk one is face to face, great live cd.

I dont know about axl live...in fact i dont think he often performs enough songs as he often walks and causes riots :). In fact thier live ablum must of took them 10 years to record...from every venue.
