i have no knowledge on gear whatsoever, which is proved by this question im about to ask:

WHen you buy a 1/2 stack amp head, do you have to have a cabinet for the sound to go through, or will the sound go through the head if played by itself?

The head has no speaker itself. It's just what powers your speakers and gives you that "distinct" tone.
