I've never used EMG pickups, so I can't answer that part, but the specs on the rest of the axe suggest that this baby is a righteous TONE MONSTER!!

I played that exact guitar except with a stop tailpiece at the Mesa outlet in Hollywood and almost left with it. When you play it it feels alive; the thing resonates unbelievably well for a solid body.

EMG's are good pickups, H-4's get good distortion but EMG's in general sound a little too sterile for my tastes (I like more warmth). However a lot of guys like em, Zakk Wylde comes to mind.

I'd advise you to check out the Kramer equivilant, the Baretta, I got one and I like it more than the ESP i almost got; it has a waaay tighter feel, it just feels way more stable, plus it retails at $399. But if you're dead set on an ESP that's a great guitar.
