Hi guys,
I've been sweeping for a little while now, but i was wondering if you have some kind of routine to pratice because i'm really needing one.
Thanks a lot,

I usualy start with 2 string sweeps(economy picking) al la Rising Force solo, than three, a little bit on four, and than finish off with 5 and 6. Usualy when I´m ready with four str. I go back to 3 str. sweeps and the difrence is huge compared to first rime. Than at the end I finish the session by playn´ some harder sweeps, mostly combined with slides. Pretty much Jason Becker over those.

If you're still beginning , try mastering the normal 3 string sweeping (Metallica's "lepper messiah" solo , Malmsteen diminished sweep ,etc.) first , to get your picking hand used to small sweeping motion correctly.
Then move on to 4,5,6 & 7 (in case you got one) sweeps.

Could you please post a link to some of the sweeps you are talking about? or write them if you can?
thanks

Try out these ones. That´s 3 strings (e-B-G)

E|-------5--8-p5-----|-------5--8-p5-----|
B|----6-------------6--|----6-------------6--|
G|-5--------------------|-7-----------------|

|-------5--8-p5-----|-------5--8-p5------|
|----7-------------7--|----7-------------7---|
|-8--------------------|-7------------------|

|-------5--8-p5-----|-------0--5-p0------|
|----5-------------5--|----1-------------1---|
|-5--------------------|-2------------------|

Also try to reverse them and play like:

|-8-p5----------5--|
|-------6----6-----|
|---------5--------|....ans so on. BTW Good luck. You´ll get it quickly.

I've posted some sweeps here : http://www.guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=6169 .

So check'em out , but they're mostly 5 or 6 strings , so get familiar with those 3 string sweeps first so that you get used to the sweep picking motion and focus on more difficult fretting hand stuff.

BTW , 3 strings sweeps are parts of bigger extended arpeggios on 6 strings , or get it the other way , 6 strings sweeps are extended 3 string sweeps ... You'll notice that from their shapes.

Some of my favorites:

Francesco Fareri and Mick Thomson like this one:

----------------------10-14-t19-14-10------
-------------------12------------------12--
-----------7-sl-10------------------------
--------9------------------------------
------9----------------------------------
7-10-------------------------------------

Eklundh sweep:
---------------7-12-7-----------------------
----------10------------10--------------------
--------9-----------------9--------------------
-----12---------------------12-------------------
---9---------------------------9--------------------
-8-------------------------------8------------------

Maj7 with legato (also cool with added taps):

---------7-10-12-10-7------------------------
-------8---------------8-----------------------
-----9-------------------9--------------------
--10-----------------------10-------------------
--------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------

Half-Diminished with legato:

----------12-14-15-14-12-----------------------------
-------13-----------------13--------------------------
----14-----------------------14-----------------------
-16-----------------------------16---------------------
------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------

i-V arpeggio sequence:

------------7-12-7-14-----------------------------------
----------8-----------16-----------------16-------------
--------9----------------16------------16------------------
------9----------------------16-13-16----------------------
7-10-----------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------

These are the ideas I get the most mileage out of, but try to make some of your own, too.

Sorry 'bout the poor tab layout, but you probably get the general ideas...

How do you play the last ones. Btw, they are pretty hard for a begginer. And while we are on that here are some of my fav. sweeps. The first one of yours aiwass I like very much and...

|---------------3-8/13p8--------------------
|------------5------------10----------------
|---------5-------------------10------------
|------5--------------------------10--------
|-3h7---------------------------------12p8/-
|-------------------------------------------Cont

|--------------------10-15/20p15--------------------|
|----------------12---------------17----------------|
|------------12-----------------------17------------|
|--------12-------------------------------17--------|
|-10h14---------------------------------------19p15-|
|---------------------------------------------------|

|-------------------9-12/17p12--------------------|
|---------------10--------------14----------------|
|----------6-9----------------------14------------|
|-------7-------------------------------14--------|
|----7--------------------------------------16p12-|
|-5-----------------------------------------------|

There you´ve got some more to practice. Takes some time but are definitly worth.

To play the last one I posted, you just have to switch positions. If it's the last chord shape you're thinking about, you barre the 16th fret notes with your middle finger.
