What are some other real good Metallica songs. Fade To Black and Nothing Else Matters hvae moved their way into my personal favorite songs of all time. I don't like Enter Sandman, but are there any other songs like Fade To Black and Nothing Else Matters that they do? Or other bands do?

Try The Unforgiven or The Unforgiven II, these have a slower almost ballad approach, and are great songs.

Check out Welcome Home (sanitarium) and One too. They both have a brutal ending but 1st half of these songs are definitly ballad oriented. And than thereīs lotīs of ballads on Load and Reload. Especially Load. Turn The Page is also pretty cool though itīs a cover.
But Fade To Black, Nothing Else Matters and The Unforgiven are the leading ones.

Until it sleeps is a great song and it's not either heavy nor a ballad.
You are just looking for that type of songs by metallica?
Tele Master

Exactly, ballad type.

And "Hollow" and "Cemetery Gates".
As for Metallica, "Dyers Eve" is pretty calm...

For calm ballad music wich hitīs you right in the heart (our is it brain??), check out Slayer.
Cemetery Gates and Hollow are damn cool songs. Hollow melody is amazing. Great whammy bar technique by Darell. Never like This Love.
And SLY, thatīs right man. If you want to listen to Metallica, listen to SLYīs set list. Thatīs the real Metallica, un-ripped, agressive, fast, brutal...GREAT!!!

Oh yeah ! ;)
Dejan Sajinovic - Yeah dude , the real metallica ... When I play a gig and covering some metallica my choices would usualy be picked up from that list (in addition to few others) .
Tele Master - The songs are mostly metal , or slow with the remarkable great old metallica's touch like "fade to black" for instance ... Just check'em out and tell us what do you think.

Mater of Puppets has a nice, calm interlude. And the rest of the song is an encyclopedia of metal riffs.

Fight Fire With Fire has a great classical 12-string gtr into. Really cool idea to start off such a brutal song with such intro.
BYW the best instrumental is Orion (my opinion)

It's only cool for a bass player , or somebody interested in that ... Most people I know hate this one ! (don't misunderstand me , I like it)

I love them all , but I agree that Orion was the best ... Very cool music from the four instrumentalist , pure genius.

I agree the song kicks ass (especially the vocal arrangement), but that solo makes my ears bleed...

I think Kirk has played alot of stuff that should never have been on tape...
His solos in "One" are really nice though. For pure shred'n headbanging (no musical purpose in mind), "Creeping Death" and "Dyers Eve" are fun too.
If you ask me, the only "perfect" solo Metallica ever played was "Nothing Else Matters". Just my opinion.

My opinion about Kirkīs solos are:
Kill Em All-fast and furious, pretty same stuff whole the time and lots of penta scale (almost the only one that he uses on the entire album). But he only had like 2 weeks to come up with all stuff so he really didnīt have time to explore. I like those solos but some more variety wouldnīt hurt.
Ride The Lightning-Itīs pretty obvius here that Kirk had lot more time to work on solos. Still lots of penta scales but the melt in the song much better than Kill Em All solos. Ride, Fade, Creep and Ktulu are great solos.
Master Of Puppets-My opinion Kirkīs finest work pretty much thanx to Sanitarium (Slash wouldnīt do it much better him self), Orion all three, Damage Inc (tasty) and the greatest Metallica/Kirk solo ever Disposable Heroes. Man that one really kicks a$$ especially during the half time feel.
...And Justice For All-Nice technique on this ones. Kirk admits him self that he overdid a couple solos. Great sound btw. One solos are classics. Thereīs even some of Kirks hardest solos like Dyers Eve and Shortest Straw.
Black Album-hello wah-wah. Almost evry solo is played with wah. Sandman is a classic one, Roam solo is a little bit odd to hear from Kirk (whatīs happend to all those penta licks), Struggle Within is a cool solo (nice pedal notes) and great feelinī on Unforgiven (again, Slash wouldnīt do it better)
Rest Of Albums-No comment.

Now I got U dud. But Iīm lokinī forward to hear St Anger stuff. I really hope they speed it up īcause all slow heavy metal (that they been up too) is pretty boring. Cīmon Kirk, fire those penta licks like you used to!!!
Dejan , wasn't all of Kill'em All solos written by Dave Mustaine before he got kicked out (with exception to the first slow solo on the 4 horsemen)... Not deadsure of that, but that's what I've heard long ago.
My fav Metallica Solo/Rhythm work (technically & musically) has to be "And Justice For All" album .

Metallica died in 1991. They were replaced by some dudes that kind of look like them. The band that calls themselves Metallica now needs to change their band name to Flufftallica.
I remember one of anti-metallica sites which spreaded onlline after the release of Load called them AlternicA , which is pretty matching and funny . :D
No offence to alternative fans.

But still guys we must give īem HUGE respect īcause anyway you turn it, they are the greatest metal band ever...still today actually.
Metallica made all those trend changes excellent, back in mid 90-s old fashioned metal was deep deep underground so they knew that they had to change somthing. Actually, I think that they opend it up for bands like Korn, Limp and rest of nu metal bands (my opinion).
Metallica gained also radio listners wich became fans and have definitly more fans now than they had back in the 80-s our even after Black Album.
No doubt that they sold out but they did it well. Now it seems like they are heading back in the good old form so St Anger will have a lot to prove and for all us old Metallica 80-s fans, I mean cīmon, wouldīt you like to see īem live again? Also with Robert on bas it can be damn exciting īcause heīs better that Jason and probably (techniqlly) better than Cliff R.I.P.
No metter what Metallica do and how much they sell out our how slow Kirk plays our how egoistic Lars is our how much Jamesī singinī has improved over the past years, they are nr 1.
I believe that they were going to make it to mtv and get more radio fans even if they didn't change ... If you checked the sale numbers of their albums before "black album" , it was rising dramaticaly ... I remember that I've read or heard that "justice" album sold 7 million copies in the U.S. only , and that was realy something.
Since they made their change , they became more of a live band than anything else , but that was cool cuz IMHO , they're the best and the most interesting live band in the world ever.
I realy wish like every metalhead that their next album would be in-your-face metal like the old days , but I'm not too optimistic about that cuz everything going around metallica (with exception to the new bassist "rob trujilo") doesn't seem promising at all.

Are you talking about Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Tuesday's Gone". If you are, I had no idea Metallica did a cover of that. Where can you find it?

I am very aware of Lynrd Skynrd's version, but I also found a Metallica version. It also sounds like there are different lead singers throughout the song.

I don't think anyone has mentioned "Bleeding Me" yet... that's a wicked song!
Yeah , how could we forget that one , it was the best from Load... Not the REAL metallica, but still cool.
