I was just wondering if there are any ways to cut noise down when playing with high volume and high gain?:confused:

Simon's 7 point plan:

I) Use a noise gate
(this will only stop noise when you are not playing anything)
II) Avoiding ground loops
III) using humbuckers as opposed to single coil PUs
IV) do not play any where near fluorescent tube lighting
v) turn of all computer monitors when playing
VI) use well shielded or balanced cables (if possible)
VII) shield the inside of your guitar (copper / nickel foil)

Can i ask what is a good noise gate?

and what is a ground loop?

A noise gate is an effect pedal, check out boss pedals.

ground loops happens bec of using several grounds, try grounding your gear into one ground socket.

It seems that you need a Noise gate, since you said you have noise with high gain and volumes.

Im using a Behringer gate. This is a bit of rack-mounted kit and it does the job nicely. It is also worth being aware that other bits of kit some times have noise gates built into then like the Behringrer compressor, no point buying stuff twice. Look for references to downwards expanding gates !

Don't good envelope filters normally have an adjustable decay parameter?

hhhm...not that I know of...im not sure, but i dont think my Q Tron + has one, and thats a top of the line envelope filter.

You're right, I had it mixed up with synth envelope filters.
