That twangy sound?

How do i get that twangy sound from my amp? My amp has two channels being lead and clean. They both have the usually vol, mid, bass, treble, and the lead has gain. I also have a master and reverb. The guitar im using is a strat as i dont think my les will go well with the genre. I been trying to find a tone simular to sweet home alabama or even to most of country stuff today...with in the limits of a standard strat pickups of course. Can anyone help?

ah......i dont know, i'm trying to find that sound too. telecaster would prolly help (i play a gibson les paul...), but eh.

the only way i can get that sound is from a line 6 and i know that some guitars and picks ups are better suited but its the essence i wanna catch! :)

I can get it with an ART TPS preamp and my TexMex California fat strat using the middle pickup (HSS). I don’t get it when I use my other strat so i am thinking it is a pick up thing !

that could be it...so you think the tex mex pickup is the in the mid position offers the best country sound?

Try this, set your Strat for the bridge and middle pick-up combination, on the clean channel of your amp, set your treble about 7-9, bass 3-5, mid just enough to know it's on, turn your master volume all the way up, set your clean channel volume on 1 or 2 and keep turning it up until you get the volume level you want, add a little reverb, if that don't twang then something is broke or not plugged in, that ought to give you a bit of that Ed King/Sweet Home Alabama tone, turn the mid and channel volume up and the master down a little and you can start getting into that Mark Knopfler/Sultans of Swing type of sound, Happy Quacking.....

what i've been doing lately (with my Gibson Les Paul through a Fender 65 Reverb), is put the bass on low, treble at high, and picking with my fingers. get that snappy tone, can't beat it.

My lead guitarist in my band uses a standard strat, and can get some real twangy sounds out of it. He uses a Crate GX30M amp. Turn the mid and high up, low down, use the bridge pickup.

I think alot of the twangy sound is in your fingers, if you know what i mean.

try this: high up, low down, and pinch the string, that is, hold it between your first and thumb (or pick and thumb) pull it away for the guitar and leave it.
oh, and you can use the sitar effect like in "wherever i may roam" if you seek that sound.
i almost always use my fingers - i just have to feel the strings.

There are several levels of twang, but by turning the bass low and treble up, and using the bridge pickup, that stuff will help, but you wont get the twang just by doing that. learn some country songs, like Mama Tried or something.
