You should definitely not get such a boner for guitar solos!

why do u care i happen to like solos back off u can go play ur little country song and rubb urself while people who like solos can do the contest so ummm..... yea ne way sry to those who actually want to do the contest thing he just has no friends and figures since he can prolly play a scale that he's the best in the world and hates other people that try to learn riffs, solos, chords, sweeps, tabs, or any thing. the only way to fix an attitude like that is a sharp stick and a 9mm. thanx to all those who want to do the contest have fun with it.

if you want to show your solo skills, there are guitatwar.com and guitarbattle.com out there..
of course i think it could be nice to have our own solo competition , but if youre interested there are those 2 sites which are about guitars contests

Last time somebody started a competition it kinda died in the shell...
I could contribute a solo, just need somewhere to upload it.
Any other interrested. Deke3000 since you stepped forward and suggested this "friendly" competition, would you do the honors and post the first link to your solo? I'll try to find somewhere to upload mine. I may tab it and make a trick/lesson out of it but it's 1:53 minutes long, may take a while. (I hate tabbing)

And what's especially funny about this post is that many Country guitarists can absolutely throw down when it comes to solos.

I wrote the solo to Malmsteens Rising Force. (I really did!)
Can I post that?
Otherwise I can just come up with something in a minute or so.
But awwww do I really have to contribute?
Hey guys, you remember when we decided that
I was the best guitarist in here right?
Well then why cant I just get the trophy now?
;)

and... There's thirteen hundred and fifty two guitar pickers in Nashville...and they can pick more notes than the number of ants on a Tennessee ant hill...

Man, I didn't mean to get you all riled up, I was just stating an opinion. I'm not saying I'm the best guitar player on Earth, I'm just saying that I think there are more important elements to music than playing guitar solos. Sorry if I pissed everyone off.

I knew people were going to get riled up somewhere in a thread like this one.
These questions about being good in guitar are just the type that bring to the fore people's talent to irritate with the notion that their idea of what is good is the idea of what is good.
You know guitar is not like running,or throwing a javelin. In these things, the guy who runs fastest is the best. The guy who throws the jav farthest is the best. But guitar is different.
If you saying the fastest solo, that is easy to deal with.Or the guy who strumms hardest.
But when you say best;guys will get riled up,that's for sure.
Just search for any "greatest guitarist" thread on this forum.
You'll see what I mean.

Perhaps coz there was nothing to be said.
Coz you can't diss a song simply because it doesn't have a solo.
Or wax lyrical about a song just coz it has a solo.

believe it or not i didn't mean for this to end up as a huge fight or haveing nething to do with who is the best and who isn't the best. i apologize to everyone that i may have offended i didn't mean to in neway except for the one and thats only because i didn't expect anyone to say anything like that i just expected people to post solos......i like solos but it's, as said by many of u not the only important aspect of playing the guitar. And i never meant to disrespect country........if ne one still wants to post a solo u can i would like to see them. but it ias no longer a contest i just wanna learn some good solos and i figured make it a game a contest a way for all of u to have fun but i guess i mis worded that in my first post on this thread and i apologize to all of you.....
sorry

No sweat man. I was just trying to be funny. It's part of a verse from a song by the Lovin' Spoonfull, called "Nashville Cats".

I made a tripod account don't know if this is gonna work.
cut and paste this in your internet browser, otherwise it will not work.

Hey Benoit, mind posting your backing track to that solo you did? I wouldn't mind improvising over it and posting a solo...

Well, I don't know what the rest of you guys are like but Herve (lalimacefolle) posted this totally nuts shred with tons of sweeping where he used a thimble to play notes beyond the 24th. If you guys can beat that good on ya, I sure as hell can't and I'm hotter than most.

Benoit . . . nice track. You've got a nice Santana/old rock thing going on there. I like the resolution at 0:30.
I'm expecting this "competition" is going to turn into a lame, tiddly-fingers wankfest to see who can cram the most notes into a measure, like most guitar contests usually do, but you turned in a nice piece of melodic soloing. Hats off to you.

Here's the backing track I composed for the solo. It sounds better now, I re mixed it a bit. Added some reverb.
should be up at this address
http://solotemp.tripod.com/backingtrack-96.mp3
Like the other one, cut and paste in browser. You could, like Christoph said play a ton of notes in the mesure but I feel this soundclips is good for playing slow/melodic solo. Really good for beginners, just try to play some licks you've learned and fit them in tempo.
I can play some malmsteen licks but it's not in me to fit them in a solo. So if some of you have problems with building solos, maybe you're just trying to play things not meant for you, things you're not confortable with. Let the feeling go as some would say.
I've heard Lalimace solo, it was really great but I could never play that. Even if I was good enough to play as fast as he does, It wouldn't sound half as good as him since I wouldn't feel confortable with it. He does master his own style.
If you use this backing track, please post your solo, I would really like to see the feeling you'll put into it. Cause in the end it's all about feeling. A solo without feeling is like a happy meal without the toy, it's still good but it's missing something.... :)
