Now, When i say band i mean one that actually has at least one guitar is dominant e.g. Kiss. My fave bands like this would be Kiss, Lynyrd Skynyrd, And The Beatles. Per haps i should mention that im only 15. You don't find many people my age that like those bands let alone heard of them.

When I was 15 I liked KISS, Aerosmith, Guns, Maiden, Metallica, Bon Jovi and AC/DC. Led Zeppelin too.

Now I´m 20 and I like still those bands but also Dream Theater, Ozzy Osbourne and the guitarheroes like Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani, Becker, Friedman.

I bought a pat metheny album hearing what a great guitarist he was but the album I bought (trio - {some dates, 99-2000 I think}) I found quite dull.
I've also heard a dull Al di meola album though so I'm not going to write Metheny off, have you got any recommendations?

The first time I heard Pat Metheny it was that 'trio' album. I didn't like it at all, way boring. Now I've got a good collection of him though. :)

My favorites so far are 'Bright size life', which is his debut album, and 'Letter from home'. The new album 'Speaking of now' is good too.

Thanks for your advice! I shall see if my library has them to copy, if not I shall do something rash involving money.

It would have to be a close call between Led Zeppelin and Dee purple, of the modern bands I like Ocean colour scene.

Led Zeppelin

Beatles, Oasis, Guns N' Roses, Jeff Buckley, Stones, Jam would be some of my favourites. Alot of bands I wouldnt have much to choose between them - on any given day a different band is my favourite. I dont tend to be fanatical about bands, I like to vary my listening.

Ocean Colour Scene are great for whoever said it.

At the moment I really like Marvelous 3, they are a power-pop band, punkier than Blink 182 without the annoying voice, the sinbger Butch Walker is amazing. He has a huge range.

DREAM F*CKING THEATER

also, Symphony X and In Flames

When I was thirteen (staring out with rock after switching from classical guitar), I got into GNR and aerosmith and all of that.

When I was fourteen, I started the band I'm in right now, and we played Metallica and Pantera 'till our fingers fell off.

Sometime around this winter, we all got really interested in Dream Theater, and started learning their stuff. It's by far the coolest so far, and now, at age fifteen, We're able to play most of their stuff. Of course, we still have a long way to go. The goal, after all, is to be able to WRITE that kind of stuff. Not just play it.

How about The Shadows, The Beatles, Led Zep, Yardbirds, Queen, all that kind of thing. Does SRV and Double Trouble count?

You mean the... old... stuff? Yeah they count. But one doesn't HAVE to like them. Cream f*cking rocks, though.

Rush (76-82 is their top period for me), Satriani, Dream Theater, King Crimson (I have 2 albums one crap and the other isn't -"indiscipline" = scary talent), Faith No More, Metallica, Vinnie Moore and anything else shred related with a bit of soul.
