I just got a amp for 120$$ canadian, and its a Fender one with Distortion.

When I usually play the high E string (with distortion) it starts going on and on with a high screech like a bats, Until I place my hand to mute the strings. This always happens when I play with the distortion over 4 volume notches. When I play Guitar without distortion the amp sounds fine.

Is it that I need a better amp or a distortion pedal

what do you mean by 'high screech like a bats' ?
do you mean it doesn't sound like a pure e-string ? I mean does it sound slightly like 2 strings played together?
check this string with a loud clean tone, see if there's a slight screech similar to that when dist. is on..

if so, you need to change the strings, some strings sound screechy when they get old (begins with high e, then b & g strings)

Well...Feedback can rocks and suck...just learn to control it and use it as you want to...It is a great tool for some ****.

is it a fender frontman? cause i have one for a practice amp and it does what you say. It also could be incombination withthe pick ups. Some hum because their a little cheap, while you could also need a tune up with your guitar. I find if you place your hand on the bridge or anyhting metal touching the strings you get rid off the sound, but you can play with or get rid of it as the others say....what is your guitar?
