I've been playing for about 2 years now but in all that time maybe an hour with a strap, All because I didn't have one, then when I got one the screw on my strap button broke. Well I got it fixed now, and when I play straped, I am not bad, but not as good as sitting. Any thing I can do to get better at playing straped? Besides Practice, like any riffs, or maybe streches? Thanx

See similar topic in "Open Discussion" page 2 , "Trouble Playing Standing Up". Good suggestions there. All I can add is practice, practice, practice. I play my electric standing up only; I sit for my acoustic playing. The transition can be annoying but keep at it and it will come to you.

i just remembered a quote from dimebag daryl on why he practiced and recorded one of pantera's albums standing up... "You don't go to war sitting down!!"
thought that was cool... but yea, if you're gonna be playing a gig standing up (as most people do) then why shouldn't you practice standing up... granted a gig may only be an hour or two and you might (dunno difers from person to person) practice 6 hours a day. so play an hour standing up, then sit down for an hour, back up for an hour, etc... but you HAVE to start practicing standing up to get comfortable playing that way. and try to adjust your strap so that your guitar is at a similar height to when you play sitting down, this will keep things nice and consistent, and you'll adapt faster...

I am new with a strap and I pulled it tight and then I tilt it up so the neck point up a little. Much easier

When you sit, the guitar is positioned somewhat high in relation to your body. It could be that your strap is setting your guitar too low. Try shortening the strap so the guitar rests higher - closer to where it sits when you are sitting with it......but not TOO high you still want to look cool, right? lol :-)

Yeah, did you notice that almost all the people who do that are Rythym players i.e.James Hetfeild and they dont need to reach the high notes. Most lead players wear them about ab heigth so ther dont have to bend over to play the high notes.
