Just wondering what kind of guitar everybody here has. Myself, I have a seven string Ibanez w/ floyd rose tremolo and EMG pickups. I also have an older Aria ProII with a standard tremolo. Feel free to talk about what kind of amp and/or effects you use.

Which Ibanez 7-string do you have? Why did you change the pickups to the EMG? I take it , it's not the UV777 w/ Evolutions? I am seriously considering a 7-string Are you satisfied w/ the Ibanez?
Thanks
by the way, currently playing, 1985 Fender, 1986 Jackson, Jem777, Jem7BLK, Jem555.

I have an all original 1981 Rickenbacker 480 (solid body - looks exactly like the famed 4001 bass). I had a 1973 version which was ripped off from my apartment in .....1981! I also have a Yamaha 340-II acoustic. Next on my wish list is a 60's or 70's Gibson SG.

72 Gibson L6S & an 80's Roland GR808 Guitar synth (not the dumb looking star trek one with the handle on top), a really crappy no-name acoustic and an Electric Atako by Quest.
I used to have an Ibanez Artist too but the neck turned into a boomerang & a Yamaha 12 string that got smashed into little bits.

I'm not quite sure what the model number is because it was a graduation gift. If you want to know what it looks like you'll have to go to Guitar Center, they're the only one's authorized to sell my particular model. As for the EMG pickups, why not? Unless all you want is a crisp clean tone EMG pickups are great especially for people like me (metal heads). And yes, I do reccomend getting an Ibanez, it's the nicest guitar I've ever played. http://www.guitarforums.com/gtubb/smile.gif

I'm playing a BC Rich Warlock with a Widow headstock with a Floyd Rose II and 2 humbuckers. It's a violent looking piece of guitar. I don't like 7-strings, they seem kinda trendy to me... Most players I've heard who play 7-strings don't even use the higher end of the guitar, so I don't understand why they don't just tune down 2 1/2 steps and go with that, instead of working around the akward situation of having a fatter neck. It'd drive me fawking nuts... Although Steve Vai, and, I think, John Petrucci put good use to 7-strings.

I have an Ibanez 750, Ibanez RG570, all with Dimarzio pickups, a Jackson Rhandy Rhoads with Jackson pickups, and a Yamaha acoustic.
In my rack I have an ADA MP-1, and a Yamaha FX-500, I know it is old stuff but the tones are killer! I use an ART MIDI footswitch, and use various Peavey amplifiers.

I have a 70s Ibanez les paul copy. I used to have an ibanez strat copy. I have an american fender strat now.
I have a martin D28 acoustic, which I dearly love. I just got a fender acoustasonic amp for it and a fishman pickup. I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to amplify an acoustic, but now it sounds awesome.

I know you weren't trying to be rude when you said that Istvan, and I'm not trying to flame you when I say this:
Let's think about this for a second. How many strings on a guitar do you have to choose from? Well, I've seen a six string, a seven string, and even a five string. With that in mind, either way you go, technically speaking, you will be trendy by choosing your guitar because of only having three options to go with. In most cases only 2 (only have seen one five string in a guitar store before). Also, my intention when buying this guitar was not to play Korn and Limp Bizkit on it. It was to take it to a totally different place that I couldn't go with a standard six string, just like Vai did. Just wanted to make sure everyone knew I'm not "trendy" http://www.guitarforums.com/gtubb/eek.gif as said before.

Yeah, I didn't mean that you were trendy when saying 7-strings were, it just seems that anyone my age (17) who play 7-strings do it because of Korn and all that stuff... I respect you for doing it for that extra "territory" to play on. No hard feelings?

I think those 7-strings are cool if you are gonna use it from the 1st fret on your low B-string till a 6 step bend on the 24th fret of you high E-strings. hehe
Thats what those things are for, not to playback Korn or Limp Bizkit.
I play a Ibanez RG270 , Jackson PS3T and a Admira nylon string.

What about twelve strings????
Jackson KE3, Floyd Rose, Seymore Duncan Pickups.
Takamine Acoustic.
Personally I think the 7th string is neat but unnecessary. After all most bands have a Bass player.

Seems like there's a lot of different viewpoints on seven string guitars. My perspective on it was "Hey, my fingers are long enough that the extra width doesn't bother me, and if I feel like playing that low I can,". From what I hear though the seven string was actually first used by jazz guitarists to get a wider selection of chord tones out of their guitar. And zepo, I did forget about the twelve string. Oh well, we all make mistakes. And no, there is no hard feelings Istvan.

When I first started playing my seven string Ibanez I did it for one main reason. To be different, that's it. Yes, I could've tuned down my low E, but I wanted to show everyone that the seven string guitar wasn't a waste of time or money and that it could be used melodically. Now that the seven string has finally caught on more with bands such as Korn and Limp Bizkit people are finally giving it chance. I don't neccessarily like to use the seven string like Korn, and Limp Bizkit do, but they are doing there own thing and that's what's important. So before judging anyone over what guitar they choose, remember, it's their choice in the first place. Take it easy!

Hey, currently I'm operating:
•81 Korean made Jazz Bass, w/ EMG Pickups (my main instrument, it's too damn perfect)
•Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V, in need of EMG's (even more than my old Mexican J Bass V- the active pickups output is WAY too hot)
•Telecaster Special
•and finally, one total Mutt of a Strat
The basses run through a Peavey Session Bass head, into an old peavey 2-15 cabinet (if you've been doing sound for a while, you know waht I'm talking about). Also, I have an azden wireless and a gemini power conditioner in my rack.

I got one of those Hamer Slammer series Calafornian guitars. It has 27 frets, Duncan Humbucker pick-up and single coil pick-up. I like it becuase it is the best (in my opinion) guitar for shredding and brings back the 80's rock sound for kick ass solos and crunchy riffs.

I am just starting out, and had borrowed my friends BC Rich BICH for about 2 months. I finally purchased my own guitar: Fender Squier Affinity Strat. Amp is an old dual-input keyboard amp. Since this amp is very low-toned, I primarily practice through my computer via a SoundBlaster Live! card. I am currently looking at practice amps, but am undecided which one to get. I am lookup for something ~$100 price range.

I started w/ my oscar schmidt 3/4 acoustic... then I got a JB Player Sledgehammer (strat copy), then I got an Epiphone "peewee Les Paul," then I bought a cheap strat copy which I sold as quickly as I could. ummm... last march I came to own an awesome guitar, the Paul Reed Smith custom 22. It has a translucent purple top showing the maple underneath. Its humbuckers are incredibly powerful. I love it! And last, but certainly not least is my newest addition, a Taylor G335 jumbo twelve string acoustic with an added fishman pickup. If I could go back to the 7 string debate for a sec...
I wield an American Standard Fender Stratocaster w/ the standard tremelo - you cannot detune the standard trem w/out taking the other 5 strings! I wish I knew about this when I bought it 'cause now when my strings get close to changing time, I never gig without my Peavey T-60 as back up for fear of when a string breaks, it all goes out of tune!
Anywho...
The ZOOM GFX 707 has enabled me to dial in a custom 'detune' setting where I can change the whole set down to DAFCGD for added depth.
I know all your major multi pedals can do the same thing - try it. http://www.guitarforums.com/gtubb/tongue.gif

I have several different acoustic guitars, (I guess you can never have too many heh), but with all of the top name brands that Ive acquired over the past several years: Yamaha, Fender, Gibson, I always tend to go back to my no name 1988 acoustic, I guess its just very comfortable and for the most part very reliable... (Its my recording guitar, whenever those ideas come out of no one, I guess I like it because I'm so used to its sound, and smell.) Don't be a snob when it comes to acoustics...I have this 1950 Yamaha Nylon string guitar, it has a beautiful sound to it, it plays like brand new. Since I learned how to play guitar on this model, I always seem to go back to it when in doubt. Before I familiarized myself with a guitar pick, I concentrated very religiously on playing finger style, the combination of boith my right and left hands. Its a very natural feel, and throughout everything, (playing the guitar should should be a very natural experience.)
I have an Ibanez electric, A Peavey Raptor, A Jackson, but my favorite would have to be my Fender Stratocaster. I love to sit back and play for hours without any interuptions and without any prohibitations. With the strat I can just rely on my natural instincts where I dont have to tie myself down to just one particular style. Next is a PRS, if only I could pry my wallet open with that darn crow bar, ohh but I'm almost there.

Hey about the going out of tune, that's because your tremolo springs are too tight. You could take a screwdriver and loosen them until it doesnt go out of tune, or take off two of the springs, so there's only three. The tremolo springs' tension is supposed to equal the tension of your strings so you can use the bar without going out of tune.

Actually, if you don't mind having no pull up-
loosen all the screws that hold the "top" of your bridge to the block about a quarter of a turn, then tigten the springs down until the bridge sits flush with the body. Therefore, when strings break, the bridge can't move and your guitar won't go out of tune. It also makes drastic tuning changes alot easier.
This by the way is how SRV had his strats set up.

*I just picked this baby up 2 days ago and wanted to show it off...I can't find it anywhere on the Squire Web site or any brochures...It "appears" to be a hybrid of the Standard and stagemaster series....Out the door with gig bag and tax for $304.00 !!! The neck is OUTRAGOUS and FAST !!!! The humbuckers are muddy and grunge type....This guitar LOVES semi-heavy stringz....I've got a .46 on the low E right now and if ya de-tune it, Zak Wylde will personally come to your house and ask for your autograff !!! :D:D:D....
<center>http://www.geocities.com/leethev/blueguitar1.jpg</center>
*This is a Squire "Stagemaster", but ALSO says "Standard Series" (in small letters) on the very top ( Notice the rosewood fretboard w/22 frets !! YES !!! )....Floyd Rose with angled fine tuners and 2 knob config. rounds it out...I'm gonna throw some Sperzels on it and that should do it .......

Ok, I'm new here but I've made a few bucks playing guitar in my day. I fancy myself an acoustic player first so we start with:
1990 Martin M2C-28 custom double cut-away (contest prize at Nat'l Flatpicking championship) My recording guitar.
1989 Harry Miller Bohanon Pre-war Herringbone copy (another contest prize but I didn't win this one) My "banjo" killer.
Seagull Concert model. Loudest "small" acoustic I've ever heard. 'Never leave home without one!
Electrics-
2 mid 90's G&L ASAT's with the big "soapbar" pu's. These are my bread/butter guitars. With 5-way switch and sometimes a "Hipshot" B-bender. I love these guys!
1990 Blue American Standard Tele with SD "antiquity" pu's. Strung with 5 strings for "Stones" covers.
1999 Epiphone Sorrento with Bigsby. Not a high quality guitar but very cool for Rockabilly riffs, cheap!
2000 Danelectro Baritone. Sometimes, you just gotta have a "bari" track and this one works for me! Good for the money.
1994 Optek Strat. This is a unique "training" guitar with LED's that light in the neck to show you scales, chords and most anything you'd find in a book on guitar theory. I started getting "real" professional work after some serious practicing with this.
2000 Jay Turser Strat w/Roland GK-2A MIDI pu. 'Got this for my synth stuff and was floored by the features and quality, for an asian import. I sold my American Standard and now use it whenever I need a Strat sound.
Banjo-
Ok, I gotta throw this in because it was my uncle's 1964 Gibson RB-100 5-string. It's paid more than a few bills and I really don't even know how to play it very well?
Amps-
1952 Fender Deluxe TV front. 'Gotta have one of these! Simple, soulful and just plain cool. When my head can't handle the overload of "Multi-effect" units, pedals, reverb and all of that stuff, I plug in my Tele/ASAT and return to a time when life was simple and amps were built for accordians. The spirit of this amp lives in almost every "great" amp out there today!
1996 Matchless DC-30. The best amp I've ever used and I swear that I get gigs/sessions more because of it than my playing! Again, very simple controls but complex tone! Go figure?
2000 Line6 POD. This is great for "direct" recording stuff and I think it would be cool for live work with a little re-learning about things? You see, it takes a completely diferent type of amplifier to use one of these on stage than a guitar amp. You need a full-range monitor, keyboard/bass amp or anything but a guitar amp. 'Gotta get inside via MIDI and tweak things but it will deliver awesome tones.
My stuff fits me. What fits you may be completely different. One thing for sure, you never learn EVERYTHING about guitar and the possibilities are endless. Gear is cool and sometimes the right piece at the right time will inspire us to perform in new and exciting ways. Find that "mojo" without the "new gear" and you'll have a lot more marital bliss and more money in the bank.
Now, who has a '59 Les Paul Goldtop for sale? Mint!
Cheers, joe

I think I already posted this, but I'm not sure, so here goes...
My baby is a dark cherry red 1999 Epiphone SG Special that I've learned to play on. Everyone goes on about how Epi's suck, I don't know, maybe I found that one of the batch that has a really good sound & build to it. It's totally tricked out; Duncan Buckshot in the bridge and Gibson P90 in the neck (the latter I'm going to replace soon), the best wiring I could find, I personally carved out the nut so that I can play if lefty, and, of course, a matching strap.
I also have a 1967 Aria Diamond 12-string hollowbody. Apparently it's one of the last in existence. I haven't repaired the wiring yet; some idiot used it as a guitarsmithing experiment before I got it and the way he rewired it would make any guitar tech or electrician burst into tears. I can't flip the strings correctly because of the tailpiece, so I have to play it right-handed, but I'll deal. It's really nice.
Boring, cheapass Yamaha steel-string acoustic, nothing to note of it.
My amp is a Vox Pathfinder, and I have a Dano phaser pedal and a DOD Grunge Distortion pedal as well. Using those two in unison with the boost on and gain to the max is something else. I used to have a really cool Yamaha bass, too, with built in distortion and echo, but gave it to a friend for Christmas.

What is it that you don't like about the Carvin DC-127?
Seriously. You have way more experience with guitars, so I'm looking for you honest opinion of it.
Don't worry, I don't have one so you won't bruise my ego so just fill us in. :)

*Here's the thing..Carvin makes this BEAUTIFUL sculpted piece of wood (neck through the body, no less), puts in active pick-ups, Floyd Rose on the bridge and ya got the best guitar you could ever have ! Right ? WRONG !!!!! The neck through the body design on this guitar makes it nothing more than a straight board...This guitar has NO "natural" feel to it and I find it uncomfortable to wrap my wrist around the neck unless I hike the strap up because the neck is not offset from the body......The pick-ups SHOULD be able to obtain ANY possible sound because it's ONLY got about 57 knobs and switches NOT including the knobs that pull in and out to set different gains and active tones....I can ASSURE you that you don't want to be phuckin' around on stage with gains and such....THAT is your sound man's job...Ya turn the bitch up and play.....If you DO find a sound you like, you WANT to super glue all the knobs and switches in place because if you lose that sound, you probably won't be able to find it again....SIMPLE is BETTER !!!! ALSO, the good ol' boys at Carvin wack the crap outa you to put a Floyd rose on the bridge, but don't put a locking nut on the top !!! (That's ANOTHER option)...Sperzels cost additional as well, so w/o either, using the tremalo to any degree is not advisable....IN ADDITION, This guitar does NOT want to rock and roll !!! The neck is perfectly straight, but getting the action comfortable w/o shimming the top rose bridge and SLOWLY adjusting the rear bridge is almost more of a hassle than it's worth......FINALLY, my STOCK Mexican strat and Squire H/buckers kick the living SCHIT outa these actives, as far as output and warmth is concerned....This guitar should be MUCH warmer than it is and (for the money) I would NOT recommend this guitar unless you want to explore the lost fusion/jazz/laymo chords of some obscure 3rd world pop through a 8" Peavey amp.......THIS guitar is a PERFECT example of EVERYTHING right on paper and NOTHING right in the rock world ...The overall sound is tinny and unimpressive EVEN CRANKIN' the Marshalls !!.....Your mileage may vary :D.....SIDE NOTE: I BELIEVE that when you give something to your guitar that the guitar should give something back to you :)..When I attack a string or go off on a riff, i wanna feel like me and my axe are doin' it "together"....The neck on the Carvin is straight and sure-footed, but doesn't "inspire" me to explore it...I just come up empty, time after time.....When I play HARD rythm on my Mexi-strat, it's like hitting the putting green 10 times outa 10....It makes me "feel" like those notes are just waitin' for me to nail them.....My Squire is like a puppy dog with it's favorite bone...It's tail is ALWAYS waggin' with it's tongue out droolin' !!! :D:D:D....I play this guitar until I drop and it ALWAYS begs me to play more !!!!! Put it this way.....If the V wants a Les Paul, he buys a Les Paul....At that point, I can "expect" certain things from that guitar and can enjoy the pure quality and tone of it....My Squire and Mexi-strat owe me NOTHING and yet ALWAYS deliver and THEN SOME !!!! I CANNOT impress upon you the importance of finding a guitar that inspires you to be you and becomes your best friend...this is often a hard task and trial and error are more the rule than the exception......I hope I have injected some passion into my feelings about my guitars.....They are, indeed, an important part of my life :D.....V

My boy Danny had the same problem with his carvin dc-127 i believe( http://www.dannydanzi.com by the way). He now plays almost exclusively his Carvin DC-400 custom which has sperzels and a locking nut. He has an endorsement deal with carvin guitars, go check him out, he's one of the best in the world. He hangs out on paltalk under the name majichands.

Hmmm, Magichands eh. Yes, he also hangs out at guitarwar .com, which is a cool site to compete against others. He hasn't competed in a while it seems (I haven't heard him there) but he does post in the message board. He is also on the guitarwar part of mp3.com if anybody wants to hear him. I don't know why I feel the need to sound like a promoter, seeing as I don't even know the guy, but I was interested to see his name here as well.

He doesn't post for a couple of reasons. He's to fast to be notated or for him to notate himself, He plays in a open c tuning(CGEGCE i think not sure though) which is confusing and he needs help, and he's working on his new album, And contract stuff i think. He's a very cool guy, never turns out on an oppurtunity to help any musician no matter what skill level you are Just like you guys on here.

Acoustics
1. a nameless custom made acoustic guitar- my very first acoustic which I got when I was 11 or 12. Sadly my grandmother accidentally sat on it while it was laying peacefully on a sofa- just months after my mum bought it. What a tragic way to die. I'm still mourning for it. She was my first.
2. a "lumanog" guitar which i wrecked during 2nd year highschool when I tried painting it black. I wanted a space theme with illuminating stars on the fret board. ha!
3. Takamine g series (eg560c)- my recording acoustic, the best sounding acoustic that i have. Actually, come to think of it, it's my only working, useful acoustic.
4. 12 string Takamine g series (eg335c)- sadly, it is now hardly playable due to the tremendous bowing of the neck. I can only play slide with it :(
Bass
- i'm not really much of a bass player. just bought it because my bassist at the time don't own a bass.
1. Ibanez Sound Gear
2. Epiphone Viola
Electrics
1. Samick LS 41 D, my first electric guitar which I got when I was 13. I haven't touched this guitar for 3- 4 years now so it needs a lot of work. I'm planning to install a floydrose and seymour duncan full shred when I'm done moding my les paul.
2. Modified Epiphone les paul es (a florentine imitation)- 57 classic and classic plus for neck and bridge, tp- 6 tail piece, grover deluxe tuners, graphtech ghost and hexpander for piezo and synthesizer/midi capabilities, tusq nut, schaller strap locks- this guitar is so versatile and so beautiful sounding, I decided to stop buying anymore guitar after this one. I've found my dream guitar.
Amps
1. A very old Canadian made Granada Amp- my very first amp I got for 30 canadian at cash converters
2. Fender Princeton 65
3. Fender Acoustasonic
3. Vox Brian May Deacy Amp
4. Vox Valvetronix
5. Marshall amp
Effects
1. various boss and dod individual effects pedals- flanger, wahwah, acoustic, metal distortion, grunge etc.
2. Korg ax 1500g (well, actually i'm still waiting for it. i went to my fave music store to buy one but they didnt have one on stock so they ordered it for me)
Other
I have Yorkville speakers
a Yamaha Mixer
a Yamaha keyboard
5 Shure mics
and a CB drumset with sabian b8 pro cymbals (just the basics- i'm not really a drummer. My drummer didnt have drums at that time so I got this cheap one)

Never tune your acoustic 12-string to concert pitch! I recently sold a Daijon 12-string that I bought new in 1977. It stills plays just fine. The reason for this is that it was always tuned in D, two steps down from concert pitch. (D B C F A D) I use a capo on the second fret to restore the pitch to concert E.
My Washburn EA20-12B 12-string electric/acoustic has action comparable to my electric guitars, and shows no signs of getting pulled out of shape.

man, i wish i could've known you 4 years ago lordadastrings. If I only did, I wouldn't have made such a stupid costly mistake! I always tune my 12 strings to concert pitch, and as you have foretold, the bowing of the neck of my 12 string has come to a point where it's beyond repair with tross rod adjustment- unless i change the neck (just got a call from my luthier). And it was a good sounding 12 string too! To make matters worse, I've spent all my money in a built- in chorus effect, a gibson varitone switch, and a korg ax 1500g pedal. I wouldn't have a 12 string in a while. A sad, sad day indeed :(

Actually, thinking of it, no one ever told me that you shouldn't be tuning 12 strings to concert pitch. Everyone that I know does it- even the ones I thought they knew a lot of things about guitar. My english teacher for instance-an amazing jazz/ blues guitarist who used to play pro- I always jam with him every after class back in my highschool days and he has noticed the little bow in my guitar but he just told me to have it checked. My luthier back then, when I used to live in scarborough, never mentioned about it. Even my good friend who plays the lead guitar in our band (before he got his hand into an accident) always tunes his yamaha 12 strings to concert pitch and he never gets any problems with it. In fact, his 12 string has outlasted his 6 string. He's the most careful guy when it comes to guitars but somehow, the bridge just popped out from his 6 string. It's good its covered by the warranty so he is getting a new one soon. The only person who told me not to tune my 12 strings into concert pitch besides you is my current luthier who has done the mods in my main guitar but he gave me this advice when all was already too late- the neck was already beyond repair. But I guess I've learned my lesson. Right now I'm just thinking about my korg ax 1500g so that i can cope with my loss.

Well I own 7 guitars. I have a Black B.C. Rich Platinum Warlock which i installed 2 duncan designed bridge humbuckers (yes a bridge pickup in both the neck and the bridge( it has chrome hardware, a simple floating tremelo, a widow headstock, 24 frets, 2 volume, 1 tone knobs, and a 3 way toggle switch.
I also own a restored B.C. Rich Iron bird with a cheap Floyd like locking tremelo, no paint yet, no fancy knobs, but has an EMG designed B.C. Rich humbucker at the neck and a DiMarzio "Steve's Special" Humbucker at the bridge, a 24 fret Venson neck (like a Wizard II but made by venson), one tone and one volume knob, an on/off/on toggle for humbuckers, and a phase switch.
I also own a simple Black W/ gold metallic ESP/LTD Ex-100 (explorer) 21 fret neck, stop bar, one tone, one volume, 2 basic humbuckers, 3way toggle, black hardware.
I am currently restoring a rare Epiphone Strat. It doesn't have the "batwing" head stock it has one that looks more like a jackson, it has an original 1981 floyd, and i haven't desided what else im putting in it yet.
I own a red metallic Venson strat body and guts (neck and bridge i put on my ironbird)
I own a metallic maroon Venson custom with a licensed floyd 2, and EMG at the neck and at the bridge and a black lace EMG single coil in the center, 5 way toggle, 2 2 tones and one volume, black hardware, 24 fret short scale.
Last and definately the very least, a Harmony strat (a fender copy) I hate fenders, i hate the twang, the dead sound, and the fact that there are 50,000 different strats and they all look, play, and sound the same (like ****) and it really pisses me off that they bought out Jackson anyway, i know noone is going to read this because it is so descriptive so ill stop typing now L8r
