Yahoo!!! I finally figured out the secret to playing slide guitar.

I have been baring down too hard on the strings with the slide. I've been holding it down like you do when you fret a note normally, and my slide playing has sounded like crap. All squeaky and buzzy. Then I lifted the slide up a little bit so that it's just touching the strings, but not applying much pressure. The slide just glides over the strings just barely touching them. It sounds beautiful.

Too bad it took me three months to figure that out. Now slide guitar doesn't seem quite so difficult. I feel like such a moron.....

I thought I'd post this in case anyone else was having trouble with playing slide.

i did the same thing but it only took me 1 minute to figure that out after i had a simultaneous busting of the first two strings.

I never broke a string. How did you manage that?

i was pressing em on my acoustic guitar and this guitar was a cheapo and the string were already tight. So i was fretting with the damn slide like i'd do with my finger pressing the frets down hard. I was pressing it down like high on the fretboard and pop, my E and B popped off. I didn't know if i was pressing on em too hard or whatever or what caused it at the time, but i didn't play with a slide like that again.
