Alot of times in Tabs you'll see "ghost notes" mentioned, well their is no hard and fast rule to explain what it is, I think alot of times the transcriber uses that term to describe any note or notes that they can't hear well enough to distingush, it can also mean notes that sound or ring unintentionally, basically just another one of those vague terms that could mean 20 different things to 20 different people, just have to listen to the piece that was tabbed and decipher the meaning..........

I consider a ghost note a "your choice" situation, where you choose whether you want to play that note or not.

To confuse the issue: I think both of the above definitions are suitable...like pstring said, it can be defined a lot of different ways.

Although those descriptions are fine, this may be an easy way of thinking of them: if you listen to the song, you'll hear that note ring, but it isn't one that the transcriber considers part of the actual tune as something necessary to play. It could be an accidental note (a lot of Hendrix tabs have this, as he was often pretty loose with his strumming), or simply one that only comes in occaisionally as an incidental note.
