Howdy All,
Just Kinda looking for some feed back... I have only been playing for a year (acoustic mostly some electric) and I am wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on my playing. I have tried lessons ( BORING ) and have figured out how to play most of the songs I have tried to, but also find that very boring, So..... I have pitched the books and CD's for now and just winging it with the tiny bit of knowledge I have and would be greatful for any suggestions you may have, wether it be different voicings or alternate tunings. And I might add I love this puzzle of a thing we call a fret board & someday I might play something someone will recognize...lol Thank You. Acouztik6

You say you ditched the books and CD's for now but there is plenty more you can get from them.....

If you find yourself bored with the music your listening, try some new bands or soloists.....look out for names, many are kicked about on here. Try looking at new scales and see how they sound. On your electric guitar check out effects and see if they add anything for you....easiest way is to browse in a guitar store....I do that all the time.

You should try playing music with other people, if you haven't done so already. I have found this to be a big help--I always learn something new from other people, no matter what instrument they play. I have a friend who plays mostly drums, but he can play anything. He recently picked up my guitar and played a killer solo over a little D-jam I made up. He said we need to "take some chances," and this phrase has stuck with me. Now when I play, I try to go beyond what I know and take a few chances. Try it.

You shouldn't totally chuck all your books and CDs. You're going to have to aquire some knowlege from somewhere. A teacher is still one of the best and fastest way to learn. There are some jam along tracks on this site you might want to try. Here is a site to help you with your chords, http://www.chordfind.com . You might want to brush up on music theory. The boys on this site really know their sczyt. I know you probobally think this stuff is boring but it's all nessesary to solve the puzzle you call the frettboard. Scales, theory, chords, jamming and lots of practice are all pieces to the puzzle.
Hang in there, you'll get it. Someday when you least expect it, it's all gonna click and you're going to say, "OOOOH, that's what they were talking about!"
