1 2 3 4 5 6 7.....C D E F G A B.....C=1,...D=2. So a C chord C E G with a 2=D is C E G D; now sometimes the chord is spelled with the D an octave higher so D=2+7 wich is 9 so C9.

Tabs in order EADGBe

Ive seen it - x32033
and - x32030

but I've also seen these called C2 and C9 and Cadd9 and Csus2. 'Fraid my grasp of theory isn't good enough to know what the deall is there.#

Both sound really nice, though.

Cadd2 and C9 are essentially made up of the same naotes, CEG "add the second of the C major scale D", however adding the 9th means " add the ninth of the C major scale, CDEFGABC"D", 12345678"9". See the deal 9th just means seven notes higher(the octave) so "d" an octave up.

So which note you fret depends on the inversion of the chord I am playing? Or is it depentant on the lowest root note?

I can understand the theory in terms of playing a piano, for instance, but can't quite work out what this means in terms of playing guitar. Since most of the time, a guitarist will just fret whichever notes are easiest to obtain the required combination of letter name notes.

Do you understand what I am saying? So on a piano, a Cadd2 and a C9 chord are played differently, but as both essentially mean - add a 'D' to a guitarist, they are the same chord.
Yes/No?

no a D add 2 would be equivalent to say the open D string, or D 5th string 5th fret. A D 9th would be adding the D note 2nd string 3rd fret.

There are 34 voicings for a Cadd2 chord.(according to power tab editor 1.7). When ordered up, this is the one I like to play.
