I've been putting in many many hours of practice these last few weeks, mainly going up and down scales trying to get my speed up. It's pretty clean (I practice with no distortion and with a metronome), but I've found an obstacle that is greatly slowing my progress. It's my dang pinky finger. It's got good strength, but after it frets a note, it raises high off the fretboard. This means that I can't play as fast, because it takes longer for my pinky to get back down. Any advice would be appreciated.

one thing that helped me was noticing that my pinking would go higher off the fret board when my index finger was down...so i started doing the 1234 excercise with just my ring and pinky...then with my middle, ring, pinky...then with all four...cause for me my pinky didn't work all that well either, but this way seems to help for me cause it started to keep my pinking closer...hope that helps

I also had a problem with my pinkie. But I use the 1234 method and my own 1324(works good to build finger indipendance) and i've also tried to incorperate my pinkie in my playing. But whenever its not in use it kind of "folds" up like it does'nt wana do anything but its still kewl
