I use fender custom shop big ones, they look like Abalone, and that's their shape: http://www.guitarpicksonline.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/C.gif

I play evertyhing with them, mostly FAAAAAAAAAst stuff.

I use Tortex 1 mm picks. They're the light blue ones with the turtle picture on them. They're not too thin to play fast single note lines, and they're not too thick to strum with. They're the standard shape (iso. triangle w/ rounded tip). I never did like those equilateral triangle shaped ones like lalimacefolle, and I could never strum well with the pointy ones.

I play mainly instrumental hard rock, but I also play soft rock/pop (like When A Man Loves a Woman), jazz (like Misty), country (like Travis picking Amazing Grace), blues (standard 12 bar), metal (lots of power chords!), and funk (I suck at funk since I'm just a white guy, but I try).

I use whatever I can get my hands on but prefer the medium guage standard size rounded triangular type. I have gone as far as cutting ones out of a milk carton. This, of course, being a last straw after searching under seat cushions and furniture. I like using a quarter sometimes...you can really do some nasty pinch harmonics with one...in fact it's kind of hard not to. We sold our house last year and as we were packing and moving furniture I found about 15 picks I had lost over the years....now I'm down to about 2 that are worn. I guess it's time to move again.

I use the extra heavy picks by Dunlop either the 2.0 or 3.0.I just like the heaviness in them and it feels weird if I use anything lighter.

WOA! You guys use some crazy heavy picks. Anyways, I normally go with whatever I can find on the floor. I like this one Jim Dunlop one thats .64 or .66 or something. I dont really know but I normally go with medium picks. but I like hard picks for picking like relaly fast crap.

i like tortex picks for their feel and grip, but they're like a quarter a piece, are there any other picks that have good grip and what material are they made of? and for TheDirt, im a white guy too and i play funk all the time, its all about the groove. Rock on.

End.

I used to use propicks, available in aluminum and brass and coated with something. The sound, of all things, was the best aspect of using them (and that was amighty good sound, too. Not metallic at all, in fact). The downside, however, was that i had to order them over the internet, and that they were really hard to play with (alot of friction between the pick and the wound strings). The only picks that sounded good to me after the propicks were soft picks, and i started using .50 tortex picks. These were also much easier to pick fast with. Then i wanted to play the second solo in Mr. Crowley, and i was in trouble.... Soft picks reach their speed limit quickly when you start cross-picking between strings. I was stumped. I hated the dull sound and feel of the thicker tortexes, and the soft ones just didn't do. What was i to do? Then I suddenly remembered what i had been using before the propicks.... The Dunlop Jazz 3. This pick is very stiff, yet sounds good and has a positive contact with the string because of its extremely "pointy" tip. People using jazz 3: Every guitar teacher I've ever had, Petrucci, Mick Thomson (yes he shreds, believe it or not) and a lot of less known shrapnel and guitar9 shredders. Try them out, you too! But be careful to buy the black ones, since they sound better and have a "grip" surface. Hope that i have been to some help.

I really like Jim dunlop Two mms - they have chamfeured edges so you don't have to murder the strings with every pick but the tip stays in place - you don't want it flapping around when you're picking really fast. They also have recesses in the sides for your finger and thumb to grip into.

I have bought custom made picks, they are green, heavy (1mm) With 'la limace' written on them with a slug drawing. It actually cost me 98 bucks for 200 picks. Pretty cool huh? It's 50 bucks for 200 picks, plus 40 bucks to have the stamp made (the stuff they use to print the logo) and 8 bucks of shipping to France. I'll show you when I receive them. Next time I buy some, I'll only pay 50 bucks, since the stamp is a one time fee. It's almost the same price as store picks, except those are mine!

http://www.ddmanuf.com I've compared them all, they are the cheapest, AND the most careful about your payment. Other site only put a non secured connection with 'enter your visa card number' noooo way!!!

I use a "Dawg" pic. I use this for playing bluegrass and it's really good for poping notes. It's the only pic i use now. This pick can only be bought at special festivals. I got mine at "Wintergrass Bluegrass Festival".

I find myself not being able to use one pick consistently, I don't know why that is, But It has always been a problem for me. One minute I use a Fender Heavy, then 20 minutes later it feels like crap so I switch to a jazz3 , which I'll use for a week ,then THAT starts to feel uncomfortable, so I switch to a Dunlop Medium.
It's really frustrating! sometimes I'll spend about an hour finding a pick that "feels good" before I even start any serious practice!

I don't know why I'm having this problem, has anyone else encountered this? If so what have you done about it?

better picks than guitars (much cheaper)

Dunlop Jazz #3's do it for me. Not enoug pick to get sloppy, and the pointy end makes pinch harmonics a bit easier.

Amen to the mighty Fender Medium! F**king unbreakable!
In fact, I usually play fingerstyle, which is probably why I've never broken a Fender pick :o

yeah, i started using them after i broke about 12 fender thins, didn't take much time to break them by the way ;) and now i thought that these would last forever, but now after 5 mediums i know better :p

Yeah, but the larger ones are just too chunky for my liking, and being a bit of a Fender/Squier fan, I stick with the Mediums.

Whatever is lying around. I have used the fender medium picks and loved em'. Anything decently hard. I also like using any type of change, when I'm at a friends house who stopped playing guitar. The pennies and quarters work well. :)

i use jim dunlop jazz III's and II's. i hate picks that give. if they even bend a little bit, im not using them cause that like slows you down alot. i also hate huge picks, and the jazz picks are small. if i lay them on the flat side of my thumb, they would be completely covered by my thumb, and that makes pinch harmonics easier (so does the point, but just about any pick has the point). as soon as they wear or get lost, i run to my music store to buy some more for about 40cents each

Either a .50mm or a .76mm. the thin ones when i play open chords down low and the fatter ones for anything else. Id use just the thin ones but they break to easy.
