Has anyone else been listening to this band? They're fairly recent, hail from Sweden, and sound awesome. Very odd, like The Yardbirds meets Refused. Check ot the song "Hate To Say I Told You So" or "Inspection Wise 1999" if you're interested.

yep, they're ok, not great...
I heard "hate to say i told you so", and i went mad over it... it was great
then i heard "die alright", I was really disapointed, it was pretty much exactly the same simply with different chords... but "main offender" is ok, with an unbelievable high pitched scream by a man,( the "why me" part)

The hives are cool. Theres alot of good new punky bands coming through now such as Hives, Strokes, Bellrays and especially the White Stripes, who just rule. Quite simplistic too. But fun.

Maybe this is the new sound of popular rock, just kinda sneaking around behind the nu-metal crap...
There's something refreshing about bands like The Hives and The White Stripes (who I'm not as hot about) who really do sound like their stuff was recorded in a basement and don't use these absurdly intricate techniques.
"Die, Alright!" would probably be my favorite on the Hives CD, though Hate To Say I Told You So and its kickass video did coerce me into buying the CD...

heh. I really like the white stripes... they're only a guitarist and a drummer, which must get lonely on stage..
The Hives: there's a metal magazine over here called "kerrang", where about 2 weeks ago, you got a free cd, with the hives influnces, it was like all these swedish and dutch groups, that i never had heard of... but having listened to it, the hives suddenly didn't see that special.
I must admit they do have that rock n' roll spirit... the recorded a live set for RAdio 1, with no spare gutiars.. and one of the guitarists arrived wearing his guitar (no case, nothing), and playing it.. hehe... and out burst of "ya, dat ez rok ant rowl" at the end of "hate to say i told you so" made me crack up, yet admire thier cheek..

Yeah we have alot of those bands here in Sweden,
and I have to say Im sick and tired of them.
Not the music itself, but that kind of music is such a big hype here, I cant go anywhere without hearing it.
And since its not my favourite kind of music,
I dont think its that cool to have 20 different
bands that sounds the same in my face all day long.
I like listening to "The Hives"-music now and then, but
not 24 hours a day.

Well, though I like the Hives I could see where that would get very tiring. Sweden does have a lot of really great performers and musicians that get no note here, which is too bad, except for Abba, Ace Of Base and the A-Teens.
To me Swedish rock is a source of pride as my family is Swedish and throughout my childhood people called me a "Swedish Meatball" and then went into stereotypes of Swedes being frail and wimpy... so I can just glower at them threateningly and then pop in a Refused CD and show them what four VEGAN swedes who weigh 80lbs can do...
I've actually considered learning Swedish and returning to the country. I'm two generations removed and my family were lumberjacks for the royal family before they came here so, acording to the Swedish consulate, there are a number of special little loopholes I can take advantage of in terms of citizenship.
