if u find a guitar that can be thrown in the wall and
survive, then u have found the real beginner guitar.. :)

I think it's very good if you could practice the electric and the acoustic guitar because when you know how to play with acoustic you find it much easier and lighter to play fast and clean electric stuff, and the electric is great to get to know the fretboard further than just the 12 first frets..

All depends of your style, I never touched an acoustic before the 5 th year. Probably not the best move but I wasn't interrested in it.
Anyway, the best guitar for beginners is probably a used, cheap guitar that plays well. Don<t spend too much on equipement until you are really sure you want to stick with it. I spend well over a 1000$ on pedals and effects and sold them all cause it was too much trouble. I finally got one used pedal (zoom 505 guitar). It not the best thing out there but it only cost me 60$ US so it was a good deal.

i started with clasic
i think it's better to get your fingers stronger even if it's rougher with acoustic at the begining than take an electric and see your fingers fly
and dont be disturbed bout the 12 fret thing if you can play 17'th well on acoustic you will play it better on elec. :)
