Alright, here is the deal. I really just picked up a guitar about 3-4 days ago when my brother asked me to play along to him playing bass. I can play very simple chords my index finger on the top string and my ring finger on the two below it I don't know if it has a special name or what not but someone tell me how to atleast get started off playing. If your wondering what kind of guitar I have its an electric Fender, I think. It was my other brother's but he fled the country. Anyways reply if you can help me I really suck

You can't just explain how to play. My best advice is to learn to read tab. Go to guitartabs.cc or tabcrawler and find a song you would like to play. When you start to see what they did in the song you'll begin to catch on. I started with "Nothing Else Matters" by metallica.

The lines correspond to the strings of your guitar and the numbers tell you what fret to use so the"0" means open just play without fretting anything. the "7" means the bottom string on the 7th fret. "7p0" means to play the 7th fret then release it without hitting the string again. I hope this helps. Good luck and have fun.

Find yourself a teacher. Take a few lessons. Find out if playing guitar is something that you really want to do. If it turns out that you really enjoy it, then be prepared for a long haul. Practice, practice, practice.
Then if you still suck in 3-4 years, give us a holler.

Try out this place:

I go there to learn my basic chords and stuff, but I also just mess around with scales and with tabs to some songs that I'd like to play. I try and vary what I do so I don't go insane. I like to learn little riffs from songs that I like, it makes me feel good about my progress.
