Hello there, i don't rank myself as a fast player but if you have some time to put into your music you can get fast quick.

First Exercise
(please excuse the tab)
--------------------1234-
----------------1234-----
------------1234---------
--------1234-------------
----1234-----------------
1234---------------------

get a metronome and set the speed to about 80 or so, count in 16ths (1234,1234,1234,1234) for every four beats and play the above at that tempo, make sure to play clean and crisp notes without distortion. every week or so increase the tempo by about 10-15 bpm, so that you are allways pushing yourself. Hope this helps

It's good to try and get faster, but remember, the worst thing to do is to practice scales and excercises at tempos faster than you are actually comfortable with. This leads only to sloppy technique that is fast but innacurate, and it is very hard to go back and correct.

don't get me wrong, you have to be able to play the example i gave clean and crisp, but if you don't push yourself and challange yourself, you wont inprove as fast. But your right, you have to be able to play it clean. http://www.guitarforums.com/gtubb/smile.gif
