Im sure this has been posted somewhere before but.. Ive learned a couple of jazz standards and am still not satisfied in my timing...Very frustrating so Im looking for some solace from you guys...
How many times before you were satisfied with a certain song? Do you havea routine you cover when you pick up your axe?

By the way, the songs im playing over and over are: Autumn Leaves (just cant get into the solo smooth enough also, just what are the notes after the beginning lick?) And "James" by Pat Metheny...need I say more?

Hi, some people say you should practice something to death until you play it without even noticing... but that only works if you got the skills already. If you're struggling to play a song because you're not that far in your progress yet, I recommend that you try something else for some time, which will help you improve your overall playing (scales, modes, licks, fingering, simpler songs, whatever). Most probably when you try it again eventually your playing will be closer to what you want, and you'll have avoided a good deal of frustration on the way.
