Hi guys,
I'm near kicking my computer right now and need some help.
I used to be able to record my tracks off my 4 track to my computer. But since a couple of weeks I can't record anything.
I have a sound blaster live 5.1 and I plug my four track in the mic jack. Everything was great before but now nothing.
The worst thing is that I can hear my guitar trought the computer speakers so my sound card works. I went to Control panel and Multimedia and my card is selected to record.
How is it possible that I can hear the sound but not be able to record it?????????????????????
Help guys

hey what's going on. I had the same problem you may want to check your MIDI driver or if you dont have a MIDI orchestrater download one some where that should save some trouble

It is coming from a software problem. Check out if your 'line in' is selected at the bottom left of the screen (the speaker).
You can hear what comes in your computer, but the software is telling your recording thing "don't listen to the line in, but to (the device that is selected)" otherwise, I don't know where it's coming from...

All I have to say about it is Please Please Please use the "Line in" Jack from your 4 track to your PC!!!!!!!!!!
If the volume gets too loud from the 4 track you could damage the small surface mount input components on your card
The Mic jack is there to "Boost" passive components like microphones, guitar pickups, even turntable cartridges. LOL
The Line in jack is there to apply a smaller preamp to line level sources, like 4 tracks , cd players ,stomp boxes etc... I fried a soundcard using Mic in this is why I said Please please please!!!!!!!!
I ran the output from my Tascam 488 to Mic in and burned a crater out of the mpu on my Live Card!!!!!!
I also found that in Paltalk Playing live I dont have to use Mic in I can use Line in!!
Just make sure the creative Launcher settings are set to "Line" on the "play" side and "record" side....
Happy Recording !!!! Warmfret

I also have a neat little way to record all those LP's
direct to your HDD from a turntable Ive done it and it works perfectly!!!!
Connect the outputs from your Turntable to those little adapter jacks you can get at walmart plug the 1/8" jack into your PC and run the ground wire to your PC case and
Voila' Records all those old Vinnie Moore LPs in a flash!!!!
Just make sure that your Mic volume on the soundcard are
turned down before you connect it up, start your LP and gradually turn up the cards Mic vol. till you can get a decent signal......
You'll need to get the following at Radio **** or Walmart
1/8 to 2 RCA male jack about $3.00 to $4.00
2 barrel female adapters
Ive Burned all my old Gentle Giant , Vinnie Moore , Rush and Malmsteen to CD!!!!!!!!!! see ya ...... warmfret

I still can't record my guitar using Cool edit pro but found another way around.
I use the creative recorder from my sound card and it works.
I do use the mic jack but disable the option to amplify the sound (+20 db). I didn't have this aoption with my old card.
I tried the line in and don't have a lot of success with it. I'll try to look more into this but as of now, everything's back to normal. Well, almost :)

I'm having some problems with my soundcard, it seems a software I have installed has kind of uninstalled it( and It doesn't seem like I can reinstall it, I've tried but it doesn't work)
Since I'm moving next month, and I'm planning on buying a hard disk, I won't be able to record anything for the next month. Not cool...

Hope you enjoy your new house, it's a dream I'm working on myself.
Also, I see you broke the 1000th post :)
Do you feel older?

I've just signed for it today!!!!
My friends, my girlfriend and I had a pizza around a candle (we didn't have electricity yet) dude, my 1000 post didn't make me feel older, but owning a house just made me think I'm far from being a kid (and dude, it's the guitar that's paying it, ain't it sweet?)

That's just great man, you're one of the few that can say that in here. Enjoy it as much as you can.
Life's too short to not enjoy every moment of it.
